TMI- liquid antibiotics??

This is not for the squeamish, I have a sinus infection and the Dr. has put me on a liquid antibioic which has given me volcanic diarrhea. Can we take immodium in small amounts? They already changed the antibiotic from Augmentin to Zithromax which has helped a little, but every little cough, etc, and OPPSSS. Just wondered if anyone had had any experience with this. My primary said I could, and I have a call in to the surgeons office, but they can take up to 48 hours to return "non urgent" calls. Staying well hydrated.

Anyone have any words of wisdom?

Thanks.

Good am Barb,

First, I'm not a doc so this is simply advice I'm passing along from personal experiences. Sorry to hear you are dealing with this. Its not fun that's for sure. Good about changing the antibiotic for you. That's a start. Next, good about calling your surgeon's office because they are the best advice givers for us first & foremost. Then, yes we can take Imodium as directed according to my surgeon's handbook. Lastly, two things; 1) your system will needs to work through this & the Imodium will help with that 2) its paramount you stay hydrated as best you can. SF freeze pops, Crystal Light, South Beach drop-ins, etc. I sincerely hope you get to feeling better ASAP.

Barb,  Hope you find some relief soon.  This happened to me over a month ago and I thought I was hydrated enough but I wasn't.  I took myself to the ER and that's when I realized everything I was taking in was leaving me and thus, dehydrated (took 6 pokes to find a vein that wasn't flatto start a bag of fluids).  They gave me a shot to stop the poopsies and an antibiotic and protonix.   It was not a fun all day trip but it worked.   Hope it doesn't come to this for you!  Good luck!!

Barb,

Once again I defer to what Kat has said and completely agree with it.  I have been dehydrated a few times since surgery over the years and I have to say that knowing the results...this IS an urgent call that your surgeon should call you back on right away.  Feel better soon!
