OMG OMG OMG – I have been approved for revision surgery!  From a lap band to the RNY !  I have 107 more pounds to lose ! My surgery is scheduled for Friday April 24 which works perfectly with my school schedule since I work in an academic office !  You will be hearing more from me for guidelines and lots of questions ! Thank you all for your wisdom and insight into the procedure!
Any idea on the least amount of time I should be a way from work, barring any complicastions of course?  Desk Job 8-5pm.
Also any suggestions of what to have on hand at home to eat besides shakes, cottage cheese, apple sauce, soups....
Will they give me binder in the hospital?? I was not offered one after the lap band (or my colon surgeries either and I had 2 wide open surgeries then  :-( ).

THANKS ~~~~~~~~~~

You go, girl! Right on! You were my surgery sister when you got your Lap Band! I was off for three weeks and had a job very similar to yours. I had no complications and felt wonderful; I just had some residual soreness on the left side where the largest instrument goes by the time I went back. All of the things you listed are the best things to have at home...I also had puddings. They did not give me a binder, but I would imagine it would help so you may want to ask about it before you go in.

You will do well! Having had the lapband, you are already prepared for the lifestyle you'll need to adopt. There will be days in the beginning when you ask yourself "why on Earth did I do this?" , but those days will be few and far between as time goes on and your body adjusts.

Keep us posted!

Congrats Kim!!  That is wonderful.

When I had my surgery, I was off for 2 weeks.  I did do FMLA and STD just in case I had complications or needed to be out longer.  I did have some pain in my left side coming back, but managed through it all.  You may want to be on the side of caution with this being a revision and have the band removed on top of the RNY.

You should be meeting with the Nutrtionist before surgery and they should give you a binder. I know I got one from my office.  Be careful of the applesauce thought and make sure it is sugar free.

Good luck!!

Congrats! Approval and a date just make it so much more REAL, doesn't it?

I only plan on taking 2 weeks off from work (desk job). Well, 2 weeks and 1 day since my surgery is on a Friday.

Not all surgeons require a binder for their patients, but if they don't offer you one, you should absolutely be able to request one. I know that's how it works at the hospital I will be in - they'll give you one if you request it.

What great news Kim!!  I was given a binder - actually woke up with it on. LOL  But, I would ask for one.  Are you having open or lap. surgery?  Your shopping list sounds about right too.  at least for the first 2 wks or so.

Kim - I am so happy for you! I know you haver wanted this for a long time!

I stayed away from work for almost four weeks - I could have gone back at two but decided to have a decent rest.......

I woke up with the binder already on and really liked having it  - it made me feel very secure.... if on doubt ask for one.......

Good luck - we are all here for you!!
