Looking for Military Depandent Referrals....Help??!!
HI Y'all... some of you may remember me some not....
My sister is currently looking into to getting WLS and she's going through the military TRICARE/HealthNet program... she's looking for some help in navigating the military beuracracy waters...she's currently living in Newport News but was looking to have surgery up in Northern VA.
Any help/ideas suggestions would be appreciated....from those going through the same system or having gone through it already...
Thanks!

It's good to see you... I've been better...been out of work since december of 08 and have been jobhunting... the stress has caused me to fall back on some bad habits... so I've gained some since then... but I'm plugging along...
do you have FaceBook? you can find me there...

Life could not get any better than this!
My experience was that if you live within 50 miles of a MTF (military treatment facility) such as POrtsmouth Naval Hospital, you have to go there. I tried to go Tricare civilian (but I am tricare prime not standard which does also matter) and was told I had to go to PNH. They do have a good program and I have been pleased with my success and followup. Go to the hospital website and click Bariatric surgery for the contact info. If she is Tricare Standard, its a different story I think.
Good Luck to her.

Barb,
thanks for the info... she is tricare Prime through my parents.. and currently is at school at CNU (newport News) but wants to have the surgery up here where she can get follow-up care and postop care from my mom who is an RN... she was told of a location here and went to one of their seminars but was turned off by the way the surgeon and other docs treated their patients...

Julie,
thanks... she's been working with them... they referred her to the HealthNet provider who's seminar she went to... since she's a retiree dependant she can choose to go to a "preferred network" providor for surgery or something... at this point I'm just info gathering for her...
I'll get more info from her and ask a better detailed question...
