I have almost made up my mind to have the ryn surgery. I am 35 years old and so tired of being overweight. I am starting to feel it more now. I cant even tie my shoes now without struggling. I have a 5 and 14 year old and want to be around to see my grandchildren. My little girl is part of the reason I decided to check out wls. She just up out of the blue looked like she was about ready to cry. I asked her what was wrong and she said I dont want you to die. I said what makes you think I am going to die and she said it was because I was fat and if I didn't lose it then I would die. That from my five year old! It truly was a wake up call that I have to do something to be healthier and diets just don't seem to work for me. Anyway I have started by going to a conference at winchester medical center. Well now I am going from there.

Welcome to the VA board, we have a lot of great people here with at lot of wisdom and knowledge. I know it's tough trying to make the decision to have WLS. I just had mine 11 days ago. I came here before I had my surgery and I got a lot of good advice, made some good friends, and got GREAT support along the way. Ask questions, read profiles, seek out what you need to make your choice for you, because it is very personal, but rewarding.

Welcome to the boad!!  I agree, research research and more research!  I know the feeling you have of wanting to be there for your children.  I was dx with diabetis about a year ago at age 28.  Right before I went to see my surgeon and after my 6 month diet my insurance required.  It was devestating.  I have three beautiful babes you need me.

Wishing you all the best!  I am here if you have any questions or just want to talk.  I am the farthest out of the "regulars" on this board and will be 4 years post op next month.  I also have a 14 year old and am pregnant now.  I lost 260 pounds from my highest pre surgery weight.  I maintained for over two years before getting pregnant and have gained 42 lbs with my pregnancy.  I am not worried...I know my tool still works and I will be back to my prepregnancy clothes (size 8!) before too long.  Research is the key.  What doctor are you looking into?  PM me if you would like my number and I will be glad to meet with you, talk to you on the phone or go thry PM/e mails!  Good luck!

Welcome!  I have been in your shoes not too long ago!  I am 37 with 3 small boys (8,4,3).  It was a hard decision, but I'm so glad I made it!  Research, Research, Research!  This board is a wonderful source of support and information.  Check out the main RNY board also!  Good Luck and let us know if you have any questions!

Welcome to OH and good luck with your decision.  My best advice, make sure you are completely informed.  Do your research :)

I know others have said it, but it's worth repeating - RESEARCH! Most people think RNY and lap band are the only WLS options available. I strongly urge anyone in VA to attend Dr. Elariny's free information session in Fairfax, VA. He does more than just those two popular procedures (and he's kinda cute, easy on both the eyes and ears!).

I am getting a DS on the 27th and never would have even known it existed if I hadn't researched my rear off (well, not so much, since I still have plenty of "rear" remaining, but you know what I mean!).
