Over Eating?

I keep reading other's post about the amount of food they can eat. " A bite of this, 4 oz of that, etc. I am afraid I am eating too much. I don't get full, I try not to eat to much, but could eat normal portions.

At the only support group meeting I went to, there was mention of symptoms you experience when you are "full" such as burping, runny nose, etc.

I personal get a runny nose. But I really think I eat to much at one sitting.

Does everyone else measure out their portions, get full, just take a couple of bites and quit?

I measured everything for a year then "eye balled" it if I felt comfortable.  Even now at almost 4 years out I still measure things.  Overeating is a common problem and can cause your pouch to stretch.

I am one year out and I burp when I am full, and I still measure my food. I eat very little portion sizes.

I've never been a food weigher but a food measurer instead. At my 9 month follow up in January, I asked Jeannine how much food, weight wise, I should be eating. She informed me that she was more concerned with the volume than the weight and to eat about 3/4 cup full which is about 6 ounces. Very rarely can I eat that, unless it is soups, jellos, or puddings. I have been told by her and my nutritionist at my endocrinologists office to eat every 2 - 3 hrs because of severe hypoglycemia so that may have something to do with me not being able to eat larger amounts at one time, because I eat more frequently.

I do get told of when I am full. I hiccup. Not a normal hiccup but a deep down in the belly or diaphram hiccup. It's very loud, very uncontrollable, it often hurts and people do turn their heads. But there isn't anything I can do. I know that at the first hiccup, to take my final bite and then I am done.

If you aren't weighing your food are you at least measuring to see how much volume you can take in at one time? If you have questions, give Jeannine a call. I keep telling them, as I did at my 9 mth follow up that they HAVE TO GET their own nutritionist for their patients. I was told that it IS IN THE WORKS!! That would be great news as they have TONS of bariatric patients.

I pretty much always measure when I am at home.  But learned fairly early to eyeball things for when I ate out.  Generally, if I wasn't sure I ate less to make sure.  Yes, I do get full.  I actually prefer NOT to get to the full point because once I'm there, I get uncomfortable.

Over time I am able to eat more.  I pretty much ate 1/2 cup for the first year and then towards then end of the first year after monitoring my portion sizes closer I found that I was eating 3/4 to 1 cup depending on the density.  I will eat more of meat, but if it's something heavy or with pasts I only like to do the 3/4 cup or else I get too full.

Good luck figuring out your trigger.
