I will continue the prayers for you, your mom and Cam. I am here if you need anything. Remember...my dad just went thru open heart surgery so I have seen it all first hand very recently. I know you are strong enough to get thru this! What hospital and what surgeon are they referring you to? Open is a good way to go...they have better access. As you know, it is a longer recovery time but in my opinion it is worth it! Hope you are feeling better! Big hugs and tons of prayers coming your way!

Hi Tammy. Thanks so much for the prayers for everyone. Things could definitely be going worse but it has been a hellish few weeks and Cameron was back at the ER Tuesday, with fevers from 102-107. He ended up with a diagnosis of pneumonia. So he's home from school some more. Poor thing. And he has his ear surgery next Tuesday. If he's released for it on the pre op appointment on Monday.
The hospital choice is not definite as of yet. Tuesday I go meet with the cardiac thoracic surgeon that I'm being referred to by my cardiologist. Dr Mark Katz, with Cardiac Surgery Specialists. The cardiologist wasn't sure which way the surgeon would want to perform the surgery or which way would be best, If they are going to use the DaVinci robot then the surgery will be at St Mary's. If they do it open, then I am choosing to have it performed at Memorial Regional Medical Center, in Hanover. Personally, I am leaning towards open, because they have more visibility, more access and the surgeon personally will be touching me. But at this point, I am completely open to the few hours of discussion that I have ahead of me on Tuesday. My cardiologist recommended this surgeon to me and I trust his opinions, judgements and suggestions with my life so I will go into this trusting the surgeon as well.

I am with you 100% on the open and the reasons why...it is the reason I personally chose to have my WLS surgery open. Dr. Katz is great and has a wonderful reputation. I would recommend digging in deeper to HRMH...personally I would not go there. We researched them all for my dad. He still ended up where we did not want him and he hated it. He never wants to go back there! I am sure you will do fine.
Prayers for Cameron...I hope he feels better soon. Maybe his ear surgery will help with some of his problems. Poor lil guy can't seem to catch a break!

I have my own selfish reasons for wanting Memorial Regional Medical Center. The private rooms are great, being that the entire hospital is private but because of a history of MRSA, I'd be given a private room anyways. But if they do it open, the hospital stay will be longer which would mean having it done at MRMC would be less running for everyone, especially my parents who would be bringing Cameron to see me. And my cardiologist goes to MRMC and he'd be the one following up with me as well after surgery. There is definitely a LONG discussion to be had with Dr Katz on Tuesday. Good thing I've started writing down questions for my consultation.

I can understand why you would want to be closer to Cam and yes, it would make things easier...just make sure they are the best Heart hospital for you. My family uses St. Mary's for EVERYTHING and we still took daddy to henrico Doctor's, Forest campus because of their heart speciality there. We had to transfer him to Chippenham hours before the surgery due to an equipment malfunction and he hated it there. It was a lot farther away from all of us for visiting purposes but we all went over every day, several times a day. He had a private room in both hospitals, even while in ICU. Just make an informed decision. If it were me or my family I would want a heart speciality center...not just any 'ol hospital!

Thanks so much Brooke. Honestly, I have no idea which way I'm heading and just going through some motions. I keep thinking that each new thing I do to make me healthier will actually work.
