Supply list after surgery?
I can not make Halmi's support groups right now because they conflict with school. I have classes Thursday nights. I do try to make it to Jackie's but have not been that sucessful with work requirments right now. She has a great group though. Where is the Wegmans at? I heard they were building on, but not sure were.
I agree with everything Melissa said. I do attend the meetings at Potomac. The 1st Thursday of every month. Feb. was my first one and the topic was vitamins and proteins. Plus, Dr. Halmi and one of his associates was there to answer questions. I found it all fascinating and enlightning. There were people there from all stages of post op and a mix of Lap band and RNY. The next one is March 5th - you're more than welcome to go - I could meet you there!
They start at 6:30 in the Hylton Ed. Ctr. I'll save you a seat next to me! When we get closer I'll tell you what I'll be wearing. LOL sounds like a mystery date but in a good way! Also, I'm having a dickens of a time trying to post a pic on my profile so you can see what I look like. I'll keep trying. You can contact me anytime you like!
Sharon hit it all right on the head! You will do great!

My advice would be do not try it buy too much of anything because your tastes will change... especially your protein tastes - mine did. I also now like things I hated before surgery - like cottage cheese, kidney beans and celery lol - Now I love them all....
You will not be able to eat too much after surgery so don't buy too much food either. You will wonder how you are going to get everything in the first couple of weeks. So get your vitamins, calcium etc and you might like to cosider getting them in as chewable or liquid form as possible to get you through your first few weeks.
Dr Halmi's support group is great and Brittany the nutritionist rocks! My support group meeting will be in the 11th March and is not the same as Dr Halmi's, much smaller and more intimate and this time we have free OH magazines and free protein samples to give away.... you are welcome of course and feel free to bring friends or support with you....
If you PM me your email address I will add you to our mailing list and you will get notifications prior to the meeting....
Not long now and although you are nervous - you will be able to look back soon after it and realise it was not as bad as you expected. I am stunned to find that I am 3 years out today - it is my 3 year surgiversary as we say here lol
You will love it on the losers bench :-)

As many have said, don't stock up on too much until after you are home and your tastes have had a chance to settle down a little. The things I found that worked for me immediately post op (and being home) were Ispoure drinks ON ICE, especially the fruit punch, sugar free/fat free puddings, jello and SF popsicles. Brittany can give you some other ideas/suggestions that work well, recommended by Dr. Halmi's group.
As far as support groups -- I try to make Dr. Halmi's monthly meetings (first Thursday of each month at Potomac Hospital in the Hylton Ed. Center -- lowest floor, around back of the hospital -- at 6:30 PM). Jackie and Sue have a great local support group meeting, as Jackie said, smaller and more intimate -- second Wednesday of the month at 7:00 PM.
Hope that helps. :)
