I am from Ga, and dont post in here but I am doing so tonite to help a good friend of mine.  I posted in the main forum first and now here. Please read the following:

Hello all

I dont have much time as it is so late BUT--------I got a call late tonite from a close GF in Virginia (where Im visiting) and she informed me that she had news in regards to Gov. Kane (sp?) of Virginia and a Bill that is being signed this week that will affect any and all bariatric surgery.  If any of you have any information about this subject would you please email me at [email protected]  She (they) have contacted 2 television stations and both are wanting interviews in regards to this matter.  We have found a little bit of info online but are very concerned due to how this will affect so many in VA. The bill will affect all batiatric procedures, stating all insurance companies can deny WLS and affect those who need follow up care after thier surgery (ie: band fills)

If you do have info to pass along, I will put you in contact with her.

Thx so much for taking the time to help!

(I havent been on in a few days as I have been so busy visiting with friends and family, when I have had some down time and Im able to get online I havent seen anything in regards to this situation)

There is already a few threads about this subject here on the Virginia Board. It will effect STATE EMPLOYEES health benefits the way I read it.

Hi Ken

There are several who have been trying to pull up info.  Her bariatric docs office is telling ALL thier patients that it affects all insurance plans so thats why the slight panic.  One in particular has medicaid and was told her band fill would not be covered if this bill is passed.  Thx for th link, everything we can get our hands on helps tons! thx much! Pam

that's how I read it too. That he is trying to cut the budget for the state and this was one of the ways that he was trying to cut it. If I'm incorrect, I apologize. Sometimes, well most of the time, my head doesn't click when it comes to budget talk or politics. Regardless of whos affected, it's a shame!

Hi,  I found this website that gives you the e-mail addresses of Virginia officials and legislators, and they also give you some guide lines of what to say to them.

If you have state insurance, Kaine is proposing cutting that part of coverage out.  The bariatric surgery.  It would go into affect in July 09.
