I want to bike fo exercise. I bought a new bike last year but have a hard time naviagating hills still. My driveway is 1/2 mile long and paved asphalt. Do you think it would be safe to try an event like this without being able to do teh 15 miles? I assume Chesapeake is fairly FLAT land. I don't think I would have problems on flat surfaces.

I'm thrilled you are interested in cycling for fitness.  It has changed my life!  Even before my band surgery I started working out- I started at riding 1/2 mile (barely) and over rthe course of tow years I now teach Spin classes at my gym and can ride 50 miles a day.

this ride has some hills- The good thing is gravity works for us both  ways!  We can't be beat on the down hills:)   There is no shame in walking up a hill when you first get started.  We call it cross training.

How much are you riding now?  The 15 mile ride has a rest stop at a winery 1/2 way through and there is a support wagon that can take you back to the ride start if you get too tired.

Let me know if I can offer any more info
