OK guys HELP!!!
OK, I know today is my first day home after WLS and I'm already confused and nervous. I'm on my second meal of the day and have only gotten in around 26 grams of protein (in my carnation instant breakfast. I know I'm probably being silly but I'm really afraid to eat anything else. Also do I need to get in at least 1500-2000 grams of calcium, or is that later? I know they said not to start taking a calcium supplement until after my 2 week appointment. Someone PLEASE help me.
Angie,
According to our surgeon's office you do not eat ANYTHING for two weeks. All you have is 3-4 shakes per day. They will progress you up to the next level at each follow up appointment. Your pouch is not ready for food...don't overdo it. If in doubt, call the office. Also, the calcium will come later...you are getting enough from the milk in the CIB. Let me know if you want my number and I can help if you need it! Try and puch water, too!

Life could not get any better than this!
Hey Angela. We share the same surgeons. When I came home from the hospital, I was allowed the CIB (no sugar added) and I used skim milk and added powered milk for extra protein. The amounts and directions for that are in the white book you should have received. I was also allowed to have sugar free popsicles, chicken or beef broth and sugar free jellos. I did add unjury to the broths & jellos to give it more protein.
You aren't even a week out and there is NO way you will be consuming all the protein that they require. Which if I remember is 60-80 grams. That is something that you will gradually get up too as they progress your diet stages. Try to make sure that with each day, you are consuming a bit more protein and a bit more water.
As far as the vitamins. I did the chewables for a few days and then, with Jeannines consent, after about 2 weeks, I started swallowing because the chewables were making me gag and throw up so I was just not getting any benefit. I started the calcium at 2 weeks, too, if I remember correctly and I take 1800 mg a day.
Since we do share the same surgeon, if you should have any questions or just want to talk, feel free to message me. Remember that Jeaninne and Maya as well as Dr B are there for you for anything you may feel you need help with. Take full advantage of their knowledge. And do not hesitate to call them if you have a question or just need reassurance. Congratulations on your surgeon. I'm sure you will do fine!!!
