Cameron became sick with what I thought was another ear infection. But after calling the school nurse to inform her of Cam's absence from school so that I could take him to the dr, she informed me of a few illnesses that were going around, Strep, the flu and a ton of other germy things.

I called his pediatrician and made an appointment for the first available, which was 3:40 this afternoon. Well as the day progressed he became sicker. Not eating or drinking and his fever reached 103.4 and had so little energy that he couldn't even hold his head up to drink. I called the dr and they got me in sooner.

We get to the dr and they do some examing. Because he's so lethargic, he decides to nap while there, bless his heart. The dr swabs for Strep which turned out negative. He did a finger ***** to check his white blood count and other tests. His white blood count should be in the middle range of 5000-15,000 and his was borderline low. The dr was concerned so did some other blood tests and finally came to a diagnosis of Mononucleosis. Of course, being a viral infection, there isn't much treatment, only to rest, rest, rest and to take tylenol or ibuprofen for the fever and aches and pains.

Well of course, he's sleeping, again. He's still running a fever of about 101, and I'm supposed to be keeping an eye out for it to spike to 103. He's not allowed to go to school and is just supposed to rest. Of course, he's miserable because he can not go to the skateboard park. The dr isn't sure how long he can be suffering but with him being 8, he's so full of energy and isn't really wanting to stay put. And he's so not liking me teasing him that at 8 yrs old he's caught the "kissing disease" so I was asking which girl he was kissing. I'm just asking for prayers for him so that his fever breaks soon and that he finds a bit more energy every day. Thanks so much for reading and for any prayers that are offered.

Hugs!

Of course I will lift Cam up in prayer.  I am glad you caught it and have a diagnosis.  On a side note...be careful of any contact activities (such as skateboarding) for several MONTHS as his spleen is now enlarged.  If something happens and he knicks it the bleeding could be detremental.  I know he is in good hands with you!

He has been added! I am so sorry that he is feeling so miserable. I know it would be so hard to keep Alex still. I will pray for both of you as I know its going to take lots of patience on your part too. Good luck and keep us posted.

Hey Theresa.  Poor little guy...I hope his recovery goes quickly & smoothly for you both.  One of my sisters came down with mono when she was Cam's age...I just remember how tired she was for awhile.  And yes, we teased her about getting the "kissing disease" too...lol.

Hugs!

So who is Cam kissing? LOL He is such a doll. I'm sorry to hear he is so sick. Ihate those moments when our kids are that sick and you just cant do anything to make them feel better.
The kids in  my after school program are aged 5-12. The other day a 5 year old had a really bad earache. She is usually a tough little thing but she just wanted to sit on my lap till her mommy came to pick her up.

Love and prayers going out to both of you.

wow, t!
I haven't talked to you for so long. You look great, by the way...but more concerned by that wonderful little man. Mono at his age is very unusual. Is this your reg ped? I am praying that he will be fine very shortly. He is so special!
