Insurance-Aetna
Okay, so I am pretty sure I want to use Dr. Moazzez as my surgeon. Had a brief meeting with him today, and it went well. As well as all the research, he seems a good fit for me.
Looked on Aetna's website, and the only bariatric surgeons they have as excepting my current plan are all the way in flipping Baltimore! There is no way I will be going to Baltimore, maybe just for the surgery it would be okay, but with all the preop work and post op care, I think I would be spending a small fortune.
What is my next option?

HI there!
I have Aetna and I got to choose my surgeon. Because he was not in the "network", I had to pay a copay and 10%. It was still a nice bit of change but worth it to go with a doctor that you want. You might also check the hospital. The hospital bill will be larger than the surgeon's. At least it was for me. Again, it was an out of network hospital so I paid 10%. The good news is that with Aetna there is a cap on the out of pocket that you spend.
Have you already been approved by Aetna? If not, it is not an easy process. I really recommend getting the details on the policy and following them to the "T".

Call Aetna and ask. When I looked at their provider directory online for my plan, my surgeon was not included. But I knew others had Aetna and used my surgeon, so I called Aetna, and they verified that he is, in fact, included as an in-network surgeon. I still don't know why he wasn't listed in their online directory, but I got it from the horse's mouth that he's covered!
If you have not already gotten your info...call the insurance company first. I work for one and I know they can help you more. After finding out if they are in or out of network ask what the criteria is for getting approval. After that...speak with the physicians office! Good luck!
