Eating out???

I'm 4 months post op now and on Friday I'm going to venture out for my first dinner "out". I am thinking of going to Kelly's Tavern and I'm looking for ideas on what to eat. I'm thinking I could order a burger (turkey) and get a baked potato to go with it...although I'm well aware I will be taking most of it home. any other ideas? I can handle meats well unless it is reheated which I'm sure it won't be at a restaurant.

I'm not big on Salads and my Dr. wants me on a 90% protein diet right now...so I'd be eating the burger with no bun. and prolly only a taste of the potato.

any advice is welcome:)

Maybe a cup of their white chili. I lived on soups when I was out until I could eat more.

I had weight loss surgery. I did it the easy way.

I gotta go with Blair on this one.  I have never been where you arew going but chili (especially yummy white chicken chili!) is awesome.  If you are not into that then a turkey burger is awesome.  I eat them, too.  I would stay more to the proteins than the potato and remember to inquire as to how they cook the burger.  If it is fried and not grilled then ask them to use spray for grease...less likely to dump on fats!

good advice given above.  I have a hard time with turkey burgers, but do better with beef ones, but that's just my paritcular pouch.  regardless, have a blast!  lys

My eat out staple is steak and potato.  i eat about mostly all steak and a few bites of potato.  And usually I'll grab two bites of salad and a cucumber piece from Nate's salad if I don't get one with my meal.

steak really??? I'd love to try some steak post op, but I've been too scared. do you just cut it into tiny pieces? Wow that sounds really good. I kinda thought Steak was out of the question post op.

Christy, I have had steak several times since December, including tonight & it works really well. I did have the sleeve, though...it can't hurt to try it. Just cut small pieces & chew very well. You probably won't be able to eat much, but it is a great source of protein, as well as heme iron (the best kind). Hope all goes well.

I have steak several times a week.  I just cook it (or have it cooked) medium rare and cut it into timy bites and chew really well.  Beef and I get along great.  I prefer it to an other meat...and I eat regular burgers and not turkey burgers, too!

I made that suggestion before I thougth how far post op you are.  I think I may have been between 4-6months post op before I tried steak.  But I had no problems and have been eating it like a fiend since.  :)  I was told that I might have to wait a year to get steak down.  I was SO happy I had no issues.  I figure there is nothing wrong wtih trying.  I have it cooked medium well, it definately still has to be juicy or else it will be too dry to get down.  So hopefully you don't prefer your steak well done, or can adjust to a less cooked version.  I cut into small pieces and chew really well.  Yummo!
