I started the 2 week Optifast Liquid Diet today as required by my surgeon.  I was a little surprised by how scared and anxious I was this morning.  I guess Food is much more of a emotional/psychological issue for me than I was aware.  Anybody elso go through this?

I also had my sleep study Saturday Night.  I'm not sure of the results.  I know that I didn't have enough episodes during the first two hours of sleep, because they didn't wake me to put on the CPAP.  I did wake up to pee - which I never do at home - but since I didn't do a final bathroom run right before I went to sleep (didn't want to bother the tech - how dumb of me) - I woke up.  I know I tossed and turned after that.  When the tech came in to wake me in the morning, I asked her if I did okay.  She said No - you didn't have any episodes in the first two hours, yours started afterwards.  So I don't know if it was just waking up or if I stopped breathing?  I don't know - I guess I'll just wait to hear from the pulmonologist!

I did not have to do the two week preop liquid diet but I wanted to wish you all the luck to get thru it.  I hear it is more emotional than anything.  I will be praying for you.  As for the sleep study...I will also pray for those results.  I had sleep apena and knowing prior to surgery is a must!  Let us know of the results!

I'm not even going to lie to you. The first 4 days on that liquid diet suck. HARD. After that though, it gets so much easier. Expect headaches, tiredness, and just general blahs. Possibly diarrhea or constipation too. PM if you need to vent. You can do it!

Good luck to you on starting the liquid diet.  I found it was really challenging for the first three days, then I acclimated and stopped wanting to strangle people.  LOL.  :)

You can do it!  It's all worth it!   But, the first 3 days were super tough for me!  Headaches every day and just generally crabby! LOL  Guess that was my way to mourn the loss of food.  The shakes were fine and the bars were just okay but I hated the soup!   Good luck!!  Dr. Halmi did a super job on me!!  I can't say enough nice things about him!

Thanks for all of the words of encouragement.  I'm doing okay.  Today is better than yesterday.  I just wasn't expecting how big the emotional aspect is.  Food has played such a big part of my life.  It's like breaking up with someone, and knowing that you NEED to breakup - your life depends on it, but still missing them and most of all dreading that you are ultimately going to go back to them.  Dumb - I know, but that's the best way to describe it.
