dumping???

I'm almost 4 months post op and I have not yet experienced dumping. I've been able to handle all foods without any problems...which scares me as I love sugar...candy, cookies...etc... and I don't ever want to go back there. My friends who had he surgery years ago can't eat pork, chicken, turkey or anything with sugar over 10grams and so far I have not found anything that does not agree with my pouch.

I mean I guess I've been sticking to the diet, but I had red sauce once and didn't have any problems...I guess I thought I was pushing the limits and I never felt anything...I WANT to dump...I want to have limits cuz I don't have self control.

Any thoughts? advice? horror stories? scare me..please???

LOL

Thanks

Hi Christy, I am 11 1/2 months out and I can't eat meats at all. I can tolerate some sugar but not alot at one time. Everyones pouch is different,  No you don't want to dump. I can't advise you on anything as I never experienced what you went through. I'll leave it up to the ladies and gents. who have been out for several or more years.
Good luck

Hey Christy,

We are just 2 days apart from WLS. I don't think I have really truly dumped.. I was told it was alot of things involved and the only thing I experience is (don't like writing word as I will gag). I cant eat beef(ground, steak, etc). I have issues with fresh fruit and some others.  What can I eat? CARBS!!!  Lots and lots of CARBS!!!!!! That is my addiction I am trying so hard to quit.

I haven't tried sugar as I am scared I will be able to eat them and that's not a road I'm trying to go down.

Hang in there!! Your not alone but trust me isn't like normal it hurts like HELL!!

Oh christy were in the same boat, candies and soda is my weakness and Im like you wondering what my limits are.  My pouch had not found anything that it dislikes either except one time I was eating refried beans and I guess I ate to fast and I got the salivas and the gags but i took a sip of water and it passed.  Im glad your doing good, keep up the good work sorry dont have nothing to scare you, except I share the same feelings too sometimes.
Take Care, Christy

Remember that thisis only a tool and ask yourself do you really want to pu****  I can eat almost anything that I want in moderation.  I do have problems with a lot of meats.  I am unusual in that I can eat beef and steak.  Chicken and pork are no-no's unless cooked certain ways.  I can eat sugar, I can drink sodas, I can eat carbs.  Do I eat/drink them?  Sometimes...but I try to stay away from them.  I know how easy it is to get back to where you were and personally...I did not go thru all of this to go back to where I was.  Dumping is not all it is cracked up to be.  I dump on crazy things...like certain protein drinks and milk at certain times of the day.  Just relax and let your tool do its work.  Nothing tastes as good as thin feels!

I have dumped on skim milk, too!  It all depends on what time of day I drink it.  I can not have it at night so I try to stop drinking it at 6:30 or so PM.  I am fine if I consume it earlier in the day!

I do not dump.... I sometimes feel quite nausiated, but that is all. Meats sometimes make me feel like the worst, but I can eat sugar with little problem. My advice to you is steer clear of the things that you know are your trigger foods. Mine are ritz crackers, candy hearts...(valentines candy and YES... I was like a fool and bought some!!) and potato chips. I try not to buy the things that can trigger me to over indulge. I have childern, so yes, I have to buy these things from time to time....Sometimes it is easy to walk away from the pantry....but other times.....its not so easy.
If you havnt dumped...do not keep trying things until you do... you just might find that you can eat any thing you want like me and then it makes it so much harder to say no.

good luck and keep up the great work

For me, dumping is like the little kid that goes to the fair and eats and eats and eats sugar all day long. By the car ride home, the kid is sleepy, disoriented, and has a bad stomach ache. Dumping is exactly like this. Is it earth shattering? Not really. Does it suck, like being ill any other time? Sure does.

Don't intentionally push your limits. You'll most likely unintentionally push them soon enough. I found that early pre-op, I dumped on things that do not bother me anymore (making a protein shake with SF vanilla ice cream may not have been the best idea... :) ), and that these days I have issues with things that may not have bothered me back then.

Best of luck to you!

Luckily I haven't experienced dumping, and I am 16 months out -- and I don't want to either!  I have heard stories that have convinced me that it is not something I want to do!  That said, I have had bad experiences from meat -- a lot!  It just doesn't work for me except on a rare occasion.  I keep my sugars very low in anything I eat.  I haven't allowed myself to have any sweets -- that is a trigger for me, so I need to avoid them.  I think it is an individual thing, and what it comes down to is we all know that we have to make lifestyle changes to make this work, and work within the restrictions the surgeon, PCP, nutritionist and we have placed on ourselves.  Best of luck!  :)
