I have a question for ya.... I am a coffee drinker, I love coffee! I usually drink 2 - 3 cups in the morning and then I drink another cup or 2 in the evening (around 3-4pm). My question is....Is there such a thing as too much coffee for us? Should there a limit? Does anyone not drink coffee due to their WLS and why? I am just curious...
Thnaks!

I did not drink coffee for a long time after surgery.  I do have some now but I do limit it.  The reason is the caffeine.  It is bad for us.  For every ounce of caffeine we drink we have to drink two ounces of water just to be able to say we drank one ounce of water.  We have to flush, ounce for ounce, our system.  Each surgeon is different...have you checked with yours?  Irocinally...I did not like coffee until I became preggers.  Then I was drinking about 24 ounces a day.  When I found out I was pregnant...i cut back to 16 ounces once or twice a week.  This is just my personal preference.  Both my surgeon and my OB have said one cup per day is fine.  I am looking forward to reading the other responses!

Thanks Tam,
I love my coffee, but am having issues with the munchies...or not wanting to eat because my tummy is full of coffee. So I guess I could cut back... there is no way I could stop cold turkey!!!

While I am not a coffee drinker, I do love tea.  Unfortunately, though, I have to restrict it to decaf tea as much as possible due to the caffeine.  I was told right from the start that I had to rule out caffeine post op.  The good news:  there are a lot of great teas (and coffees, I am assuming) that are decaf.  Good luck!  :)

I resumed drinking coffee six months post op with my nutritionists blessing.  I was DYING and wanted coffee again.  I was so happy to hear that I could drink it again. She also told me that new studies have been done with results that differ from the previous caffiene is bad for you schtick.   With that said, this is probably a great question for your nutritionist because it's a hot button issue among post ops and the responses will vary greatly.  I drink it because A. I want to and enjoy coffee and B. I've been told it's not bad for me.  Good luck!

edited to add:  this question came up in my support group one evening when my surgeon was there presenting.  She drank 4-6 cups per day and my surgeon considered that ALOT of coffee.  He suggested 1-2 cups being okay.

I dont think that I could ever quit. I love the way it smells and tastes!  Plus....I work 12 hour shifts day shift and graveyard shift and I really need caffene to keep me going at work...so I am right there with you... a cup or 2 could not be too bad for you. I believe that I may over do it, and really need to cut back just a little....
Thanks!

Hi, my name is jackie and I'm addicted to Starbucks... I have never cut back, but I probably should...yeah, not gonna happen!  I drink coffee all day long, and it's gotta be the fully leaded stuff.  I have aleast 4 quad venti sugar-free hazelnut whole milk 1 sweet and low lattes each day and that doesn't include the coffee I brew at home!  Bad Girl, I know, but I've given up some much that this is the one thing that I just refuse to do!  I do drink plenty of water though...atleast 100 ounces a day to compensate for it...

At first I stayed away from caffien and coffee... but I am a Java head at heart !!
I have 1 cup in the a.m. and that's it.  Too much caffiene makes me spastic and climbing from the walls and I already have that ability naturally anyway....

I'm toying with switching to decaf in prep for mommahood activities... (starting soon)...

I'd stay away from that much coffee (6-8 cups a day) ... as the caffiene is supposedly said to make you eat more, and can give ulcers in our little pouches, tum tums.

Just INMHO....

But drink a cup a day .. and enjoy JAVAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH

Check with your OB on cutting back to decaf.  Mine said one cup a day of regular is OK!
