Update on Progress & Thanks

First, thanks for your replies to my previous post and the encouragement.  The VA group does sound like a great group to be part of and I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you better.  Just updating for accountablility - I started using the fitday website to track my food choices each day & exercise.  Had to laugh - I did 30 minutes on an eliptical yesterday at the gym and the machine said I burned 300 cals, but the website only gave out about 150 cals for the same effort.  I wonder which one is more accurate?  According to fitday I can achieve my weight loss with 1100 cal intake a day (gives me 3 months to lose 15 lbs) - yesterday I consumed 1089.  What are other's cal intakes on a usual day, if any of you are tracking it?  Just curious.  I was also surprised when I measured the food yesterday - kind of cool, as my portions are actually smaller than what I was estimating, so that is good news.

Well, going to go walk the dog.  My 110 lb labador is happy about my new goal.  Poor thing gained after my surgery because I didn't have to work out as much as I was before the surgery.

Hi Valerie:

Good to hear from you again.

My Dr. doesn't have me count calories, just try to watch portions and be sure to eat protein first.

Walking is my exercise of choice and it was a beautiful day to walk outside today.  I really enjoyed it.

Take care and keep taking it one day at a time.

Like you, I use FitDay and love it.  It keeps me honest, both in the food and exercise arenas.  What I do when there is a difference between FitDay and my machines at the gym is go into FitDay and work the time to get it to show something close to what the machines say for calories.  FitDay can't take into account effort, etc.  I hope that helps.  As far as calories -- mine vary quite a bit -- anywhere from 850-1100 per day -- my concentration is on protein intake and carbs, particularly when I am really working out on a regular basis.  I hope that makes sense!  :)

Glad things are going well for you.  I used to use fitday but am not using anything at the moment.  I will probably go back to fitday after the baby is born.  I was at about 900-1100 calories most days.  Now...it is more, but I need it.

the calories burned thing was exactly why I got a heart rate monitor.  I wanted to know exactly how much I was expending.  I love that little thing.  :)  There's something so cool about seeing the number and knowing your effort was worth it.  I just got mine back from service and need to try it out to makes sure all is well.  I guess that's a good excuse to get off my rump and walk on the treadmill soon.  :)

Sounds like you are on a good path and I think it's great that you are posting to hold yourself accountable and keep motivated!  :)
