I had Gastric bypass surgery 1/6/2009 and seem to have so many unanswered questions and finding out so many things they did not tell me.  I thought I was suppose to have one surgeon (Halmi) who I met with several times before surgery and ended up with one I had never met until right before surgery (Tran).  Just would like to hear from other patients on their experiences and feeling.  Nice to tlak to someone who has had the same doctor and surgery.

Hi,

I had my lap band surgery by both Dr's. Halmi and Tran 3/6/07. I met both prior to surgery and saw them both after surgery in the hospital as well as in their office. I now see Renato Ralf their NP. Also saw their dietitian Brittany. I think the entire staff is very good, professional and helpful. Note that they also have their own website for their practice and patients.

Hope this helps.

I had RNY gastric bypass on 3/25/08, with both drs halmi and tran, they were fabulous and i had my gall bladder out in september by Dr. Pourshorjae (sp) also with BPSG.  feel free to PM me if you have any questions you'd like to ask.  I'd do my best to answer honestly.  I hope you are feeling well.  lys

Thank you for your answer.  I like the staff and the doctors.  I was told it would be Halmi and he is the only one I saw or met and I was confused when Tran did surgery.  I had some problems after surgery and had to have a tube from my stomach through my nose to drain.  It was gross!  It has been 3 weeks tomorrow and I guess I thought I would be further along than I am.  My stomach is still very swollen and I have this terrible pain on my left side that hurts when I stand or walk.  It is like being in labor and the baby is knotted up on one side and then a knife goes in.  I have been worried about the pain and was never told about it.  I called and left a few messages and when they called they said it was normal.  They said there are a couple of deep stiches or staples (not sure which) and they are healing and the muscles were cut.  I sent another email to this website and others answered saying they had it too and it lastd 4-6 weeks.  I just hope it is that.  Did you have your gall ballder out because of the gastric bypass?  I heard that can happen.  How long were you off work after the bypass?  How long before your stomach went down?  Did you have any pain on your left side?   How are you doing with eating now?  I started the mushy diet too fast and went back on liquids for another 4-5 days and started the mushy diet again.  I had one bad night when I guess I ate too much and/or too fast and I thought I was having a heart attack.  My chest was full and painful.  I walked the floors for over an hour crying.  I was hot/cold.  Finally I drank a few sips of water and got sick.  It was like a fur ball like a cat does.  I felt relief immediately.  Lessons learned!  I am learning as I go.  I did not read too much about it beforehand, which I guess I should of.  I had no idea I would be in such pain 3 weeks after.  I have lost about 20 pounds, but not noticable yet due to my stomach being swollen.  Maybe we can talk again soon.  THANKS

good morning, i did have a lot of pain as well on that left "bigger" incision.  I was 340 day of surgery, it was very hard to get out of bed for me, so i ended up back in the hospital with double pneumonia the very next week.  that being said, i was VERY susceptible to pneumonia before surgery.  I would have this surgery again in a heartbeat, it truly, truly saved my life and actually GAVE me alife (at last)!  I still have a way to go.  The chest tight and painful, that is "dumping" i had that really bad 2 weeks out, and several times since then.  I know this is a scary period.  I was off work for 4 weeks, and went back by 2 months out i was starting to feel more normal.  Everyone heals differently and at their own pace. I had my gallbladder out  at 6 months (got gallstones due to rapid weight loss), that is very common also.  Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions, i'm not a doctor though .  I wish you the best of luck, you will find a ton or support and knowledge on this board.  I hope today is a better day for you.  lys

I am scheduled for Gastric Bypass with Bluepoint Surgical on 2/23.  I have met both Halmi and Tran although I think Tran is doing my surgery.  I have been told it could be either one.  Dr. Amir Moazzaz (not spelled correctly sorry) just joined the practice but I think most of his patients are out of the Vienna office.

I would be interested to hear what kinds of thing you weren't told - I think I've asked everything - but the more information the better!

Look forward to hearing from you!

Michelle

Good luck with your upcoming surgery.  I guess I am just a little discouraged because tomorrow it will be 3 weeks and I really thought I would be further along than I am.  I am still very sore and have developed a very bad pain on my left side (not where the incision is) and my stomach is still very swollen.  Their staff is good.  I was just a little surprised when Tran did thhe surgery since I never met him before the surgery.  They have quite a few new patients due to the Fredericksburg office closing.   If you have any questions for me you can call me (540) 659-3354 or email me and I will be 100% honest.  It is still freah in my mind.  I did not read up on this much before which I guess I should have.  I can tell you things to buy(food) to have for when you come home.  what to take to hospital, etc.  It is good to have someone to talk to who has gone through it.  I am here.  You will love Potomac Hospital too.  Hope to talk or hear from you soon.

I had my Lap RNY with the group on 11/19/07 and have been soooo pleased.  I met with Dr. Halmi prior to the surgery, but actually had both Drs. Halmi and Tran at the surgery itself.  I tend to see Dr. Tran for follow ups, though I have also seen others in the practice, to include the new surgeon.

I am not sure what unanswered questions you have, but I would suggest you contact the office and see if you can't get them answered.  I don't know how much research you did in advance of the surgery, but there are a lot of good books out there that are a wonderful resource for those of us who have been through (or are planning on going through) WLS.  As a WLS patient, I have found that this journey is one that involves a lot of on-going active participation -- take advantage of OH and other WLS sites, the surgeon's office, support groups, books, magazines...anything you can get your hands on.  This is, after all, a major event in your life and you will want to get the full benefit from it!

Congratulations on your surgery!  :)
