Water question

Sometimes I add Crystal Light to my water. Is this just as good as drinking plain water? I know in the beginning it was stressed to get in most any kind of "good" fluid. Now I'm wondering if it is just as good. Please let me know...I'm wondering if it contributes to a stall.

Penny welcome back and no I do not think that using crystal light will hurt you and all it does really is add a little flavor and most of them has no sugar added which is great. Keep up the good work. Like when you are excersing take one day to do a total body workout and cardio of a leas t 30 minutes a day and see what happens. Maybe add and extra glass of water in as well.

Nah, I think you're fine. Although my dr. will qualify it with "of course, regular water is best..." he's perfectly happy if we're using Crystal Light to get our fluids in. I even use sugar free Kool Aid! I still find that plain water doesn't sit well on my stomach.

ANYTHING without caffienne counts.  of course plain water is best...but we all can't do that.  I have my phases.  Plain water mostly but I also add south beach drop ins, crystal light and sf koolaid, too.  Depends on my mood.

You are good to go.  Crystal light is just a flavoring and do what helps you get the fluids in!  My office and nutritionist allows us to count all fluid as fluid.  Not jus****er.  So my milk, coffee, crystal light and any juice I may have go towards my daily intake goal.  It definately helps me because I'm not a huge drinker anymore.  But I do what is suggested of me to meet the minimum hydration requirements, anything more is just a hydration bonus to me.  :)

Actually, my nutritionist told me last year that it can contribute to a stall and possibly a weight gain.  If your body is overly sensative to the artifical sugar it is made with, it can cause cravings, water retention or even an increase in body fat because the body treats it as it would sugar.  Plus, Crystal Light has 10 calories per to-go pack, which is another issue.

You see, Crystal Light (and the Target and Walmat cheapie brands) contain Aspartame.  Aspartame can cause a lot of problems in the body, especially if you are taking in a lot of it from various sources (think Crystal Light, yogurt, vitamins, jello, gum).  I'm posting some info I came across a while ago when I started really looking into my "addiction" to Crystal Light.

Toxicity Effects of Aspartame Use

Selection of adverse effects from short-term and/or long-Term use

Note: It often takes at least sixty days without *any* aspartame or nutrasweet to see a significant improvement. Improvement in health is also often accompanied by weight loss. Check all labels very carefully (including vitamins and pharmaceuticals). Look for the word "aspartame" on the label and avoid it. (Also, it is a good idea to avoid "acesulfame-k" or "sunette.") Finally, avoid getting nutrition information from junk food industry PR organizations such as IFIC or organizations that accept large sums of money from the junk and chemical food industry such as the American Dietetic Association.

Both, my nutritionist and Personal Trainer recommended that IF I had to drink Crystal Light that I water it down and limit how much I drink.  I have gone from 5 packs of crystal light a day down to 2 and am working it further down.  But, after reading the info I came across, it explained ALOT of why I was feeling what I was.  Is it the sole reason?  Not sure, but it's a start in an area that I can change and one reason why I started really looking at the labels beyond the nutritional information.

Pure water is the best choice.  If you need some flavor to it, add lemon, lime, sliced strawberries, sliced ginger, etc.

I had not thought about the sweetner in it.  I know I've read ALOT of stuff about that being the reason why diet soda is not a good choice, but never thought about the sweetners in the drop-in's for water.  Thank you for this information!  It's definatley something to think about.

Interesting Jill. Of course, I have several of those symptoms, but some stand out more than others. Lately, I have itching skin for no apparent reason... no ra****hought it was dry skin, but it doesn't look dry. I'm going to try to work on more plain water.

My brother has been fussing at me for drinking aspartame ( I love diet green tea). He was told by a dr. that it could cause joint pain so he has given up diet sodas and swears that he feels much better.

This is something to think about.

Thanks
