DS Friendly PCP in Northern VA
I am self pay, hoping to have DS surgery in Brazil. I am looking for a PCP (don't really have one now) that is familiar/aware of the DS surgery, is willing to certify/recommend me for surgery, and can handle post-op care as necessary and the annual checkups.
If it sounds like I'm looking for a rubberstamp, that is not what I mean. As an intelligent, "thinking" patient, I would like someone who will work with me and hear my concerns, and not just try to run me through his patient mill. If he has other DS patients, hopefully I won't have the situatiohn my sister does where she has to educate him on it.
Any recommendations?
Thanks,
Alvin

I gave up looking for a PCP who knew about the DS already--so few are familiar with it. Instead, I have a PCP who is willing to listen and learn, and that's just as well. I basically go in, explain what will happen and what I need, and she does whatever I need. That is how it has been for the past 9 months or so, and I am scheduled for surgery in March. She has been so willing to learn that she has even made copies of a DS diagram I happened to have with me at an appointment so she could suggest it as another option to other type 2 diabetic patients considering WLS.
My doc is in Sterling, so not very close to Bealeton (I know a couple that lives in Bealeton--you must be the other person in that town! ).
