MRSA update on Teri (amplebeauty)
My sister is Teri who had the DS 3 years ago. I dont know what her name is on this board but I am guesing it may be amplebeauty.
Below are updates I have sent out and Teri asked that I let you know on this board...

Hey Everyone Just wanted to update you on Teri. For those of you dont know - Teri is very ill. Her surgeon admitted her back into the INOVA Fair Oaks hospital last Friday. She was having infection oozing from her belly button... she did not even have an incision there! (She had Lipo 10 days earlier.) She was tested and she has MRSA. I stayed up there with her and went to her house yesterday to clean it up... anticipating her return. Right now the problem is finding a drug she can absorb. Because of her DS surgery --- she was not absorbing the 4 different oral meds the doc had her on after surgery. Now she is taking an IV drug for MRSA.... which she is absorbing (from the blood counts done). The really dont want to send her home with an IV for the 6 week long treatment - but is a real possibility. The doctors who developed the DS and the CDC are trying to determine how much of an oral drug she would be able to absorb. I had MRSA 7 years ago and it is NO FUN - I was at home with an IV and gave myself the IV drugs. So when Teri comes home she will be staying with me for a while. The earliest she will leave is Wednesday (1/14/09) that is if the docs can figure this out and nothing else happens. Waiting on heart and blood culture to see if infection has moved there. Hi everyone Teri had a relapse last night and needed some transfusions. Today they decided to open her back up to remove some of the infection... located right under her belly button. Surgery will be the last one of the day because of her MRSA, so I dont expect to hear anything till this evening sometime. They have started her on a liquid oral antibiotic to see how her body absorbs this so hopefully she will not need to bring home an IV. Once she is released, she will be coming to stay with me in McGaheysvilleVA at least until her wounds have healed.

Thank you for the update...sorry things are getting worse but sometimes they need to head that way before they get better. Prayers continue to be said!

Ample came out of surgery last night just fine. Doctor was pleased with what he was able to accomplish with the surgery. She will be in INOVA a few more days and hopefully come home soon. Will keep you updated! Thank you for all the prayers and good wishes!
