Hi All,

I really need to hear from the folks who have or will be using the RSG.  This is who I hope to have do my surgery and I would really like to hear from as many of you as possible.  Some of the questions I have are about the way they deal with patients.  I am frustrated by Joyce at this point.  I called her last Mon. to ask if there was anything they needed from my PCP.  She said that she had been off for 2 weeks but would call me the next day after checking.  The whole week went by and I didn't hear from her.  She will be getting a call in AM.  My insuranc company can be a butt when ready so I am trying to make sure things are done right the first time.

I know things take time but I went to my first seminar back in Sept.  Now I am ready for some action.  I also know that what is important to me as an individual means nothing to another person but dang...I can't be the only one feeling some of this.

Good am,

For me, I would be the squeaky wheel that gets the grease. Call diligently. There is a difference in taking time to process paperwork and such and actually returning a simple phone call to let someone know what the current status of your case is. You are not alone in this. Personally I am a patient of Commonwealth Surgeons and very active at that in my care and my communication with them. I have never had any issue with them not calling me back or letting me know what is happening in my care. You are right. Things need to be done right the first time. Keep in mind we are our own best advocate. There is nothing wrong with calling to say I have not gotten an update on my case, I'd like to know what is going on, what can I do to help & is there a better time of day to reach you? I would be adamant about your stand in all this.

All best.

Hi there. I agree with Kat. I go to Commonwealth Surgeons and have always had fast response times, without ever having to get pushy. I wish you the best of luck!

My personal feelings on this are that yes, you are your own advocate and if you are getting this kind of treatment now then what will you get after surgery?  This surgery requires you to be life long patients.  You are not done when your surgery is complete.  I feel like if they are giving you the shaft now and do not have your business then why would you go there.  There are many other surgeons, most more qualified than those at RSG, whose office staff and the surgeons in general treat you much better in my opinion.  I am also a patient of Commonwealth Surgeons and have bener had to call back a second time for anything.  They are always there when I need them!

I'm a patient of Richmond Surgical Group (although I'm with Dr. Elliot, so I don't know Joyce) and I've been very happy with them. I didn't go through insurance, so I didn't have a lot of that pre-op paperwork stuff to deal with. I've dealt with Brianne and Michaela at the HDH-Parham office and they have been very good to me. Just last week, poor Michaela was on the phone with me for almost 30 minutes trying to straighten out a problem with my paperwork to get blood drawn, even though she was working at the other office that day.

I know you're frustrated right now and I don't blame you. Everyone has different feelings and opinions - I felt they were the right choice for me, but if they're not for you then you certainly don't need to feel like you have to stay there. But I've been frustrated with pretty much every doctor I've ever had at some point , so go ahead and give them a call and see what they say.

Good luck! I found that getting to the surgery was one of the hardest parts of this process - so much hurry up and wait when you just want to get it done already! I hope you get it all worked out. I'll be rooting for you -

Hello my name is Renee. I didn't have that problem at all. Here's my story my insurance was ending in 3 weeks October 31,2008 and in less than a week the nurses had everything done for me. That's Dr.Elliott nurses( I thank god for them) and how fast the took care of everything. I called and asked them is there anything else I need to do why I'm waiting and they told me what else I could go ahead and do then it will be out of the way. They called me and told me my date then I got my papers at the office actually i did my pre-op then I got my papers. RSG I love them the are great for me. I was researching a year before I had my surgery. But I had another Dr. from RSG but I ended up chosing Dr. Elliott. Well hang in there if you need anymore questions answered feel free to write. Good Luck Renee

Got a message today that all my test are complete and the paperwork has been submitted to my insurance.  The race to wait has offically started.  The warning was that it takes anywhere from 1 week to 30 days to hear back.
