Liquid diet

So, what kind of withdrawls can I expect here? I am a huge sugar addict for sure. The rest of my diet is pretty crappy as well. What's going to be happening to me when I go liquid? Headaches, nausea, insomnia, something worse? How long does it last? Help a girl out here. I'm completely freaking out. By the way, does anyone in the area wanna be my surgery angel? I know it's horrid to ask since I barely post here and am the queen lurker but I need someone to talk to in person about this stuff. I'm terrified and excited and a million other emotions. I'm going through such a gamut of emotions right now, it's ridiculous.

Jamie - first of all - deep breath......... let the air out - breathe again........

A liquid diet is not all that bad and won't kill you. You can expect all or none of the symptoms you put up there....

You will undoubtably feel that you are hungry but your biggest probnlem will be your head hunger..... it will be telling you that you are starving even when you are not....

Remember when you are sick with the flu etc and you can only manage liquids - well that was not so bad was it? - only this time you will not be sick.......

So yes it will be diffierent, yes you will feel like cheating and yes you will hate it!

But remember why you are doing it - this will shrink the liver and help prepare your body for your surgery.... and keep in mind that in a couple of weeks you will be back on liquids again  - but you will probably not even feel hungry...... and won't even be able to get all your liquids in right at the beginning....

We are here to support you - so use us!!

I'm on my 4th day of my  liquid diet and as long as I don't smell food, I'm ok. It does get easier, but so far not "easy". Other than running to the pot 20 times today, and a sore B_tt, I'm living with it. Not really hungry, but what I call mouth hunger ( I want to chew) is challenging. I came off caffiene in October and weaned off large amounts of sugar the day after Christmas, and so far have not had any headache, just a little dizziness in the afternoon between my snack and dinner (probably when my diabetic meds are kicking).  Smelling food is VERY hard, so I try to remove myself from the situation when ever possible. I work in a hospital and have office mates, so there is only so much I can avoid.

I have to do this till Jan 20 and am worried about the weekend at home, too much time on my hands. At least at work I'm fairly busy and distracted.

They way I look at it is many others with exactly the same fears, problems and concerns have gone before us and done it, why can't I do it too? Just keep repeating that...... good luck. I won't be in any condition to be your angel, but will keep you in my thoughts.

Hi - i did optifast for 2 weeks.  If you can make through day 4, i felt the hunger truly went away.  My biggest fear would be that i would fall of the liquid diet wagon and they would cancel my surgery,  was SOOOO ready for surgery, it was the right time and place for me.  I wish you the best of luck! lys

I had the VSG at portsmouth with Dr.Mann,so I guess I can't really be your angel as I didn't have the RNY, but I can tell you that the first few days are the most difficult, after that I just sort of numbed out.....wasnt hungry as much and the protien shakes were sufficient. No headaches or any bad side effects here. Oh and P.S. they sent me home with liquid vicoden.

Hope this helps,
Jenny
