Question - help needed

Okay first & foremost I know we are not doctors & can't give a professional opinion but I do want to know of anyone's experience.  I will also be calling my surgeon's office/nut. on Monday to check with them.

Confession: I am a smoker & have been since before surgery and within 2 months of having surgery.  One of my goals for the New Year is to work on my smoking addiction.  I am terrified of the weight gain possibility but working on the few pounds I have already gained is also one of my goals so hopefully I will be conteracting the possibility.

I am thinking of taking Chantix.  I have heard of others (non surgery people) who have had great luck with it & some who have had a horrible time due to side affects.  Anyone who is post WLS used Chantix?  What was your experience?  Is it safe for our pouches?  Thanks for your input.

Good  luck Courtney!  I know how hard it is to quit smoking.  Bravo to you make this difficult but in the end rewarding decision.  I know of one person post op and I have sent you a PM who is takinf Chantix,  But, I think it is safe for us to take. Do check with your office though to be on the safe side.

I used Chantix Pre-op right before WLS to quit. I never thought I was going to quit I have been smoking religiously for 18yrs. It did work for me and I have been smoke free for 5 months. I will say the side effects are AWFUL!! I didnt think I was gonna get thru it but I did and I say if you can deal with side effects for a bit ... DO IT!!   Good Luck  I have faith in you

No advice on the Chantix post op...my brother used it and quit after smoking for over 25 years but I wanted to wish you all the luck in the world.  I know first hand it is hard.  Is hubby trying to quit as well?  Steve and I quit the first time by thinking of something we really wanted and then we quit for 30 days, saving the money we were spending.  Then we used it for a down payment and then used the money we were spending each month as a payment...motivation!  Keep us posted!

I think he is going to be getting there too but not sure yet if he will be doing it at the same time as me.  :)
