You're going to laugh, but I knew what you were going to say even before I read your post. You are, if nothing else, consistant. And I know you are as honest as your are compassionate. So thanks for the "passionate" words of encouragement. I knew I could count on you.

Love ya Sis

Hey Michael,

Aren't you GLAD you are communicating with us? Its a good thing to keep support even if its from afar. I hear ya about hospital food. Where I've been taking my oldest daughter for treatments downtown here in Richmond they have a flippin' MCDONALDS in the main hospital!!!! Are you effin kidding me? Granted my daughter likes to eat a happy meal now & then good grief who the heck that thought was a good idea???? PERIOD! So, there's another local hospital where we go for a test every 3 months that is even worse and just about exactly like you describe it. Talk about DEPRESSING! It sincerely makes me wonder about things although I totally get it.

Thankfully I come prepared. I pack a bag. I fill it with things I KNOW I/we can eat and drink in any place I may go to. Ready to drink protein drinks, bottles of water with either South Beach or Crystal Light drop-in's, Nature Valley Oats & Honey, yogurts, fruit, cheese, turkey pepperoni, sometimes a small salad etc. (I pack a freezer thingy in our bag to keep things cool).

Kudos to you for joining the gym at the hospital and getting there in the am's to work out. Consider changing up the workout. Our bodies get used to things long about 4 weeks I think it is. More power to you because I simply CANNOT do the gym. I NEED my nature time. I'm like a cat backed into a corner. I hit up the parks, the tracks, trails in the parks etc. I don't care if its cold outside or not I'm going. Are there parks or trails? Are there tracks some place at a local school?

Ok, here's a couple more things to consider. Do a search for a bariatric surgeon even if the distance is kind of far. You NEED to do follow ups especially blood work related to keep an eye on your levels. Trust me I'm going to be 6 years post-op this month and STILL they are incredibly vital to know.

Another thing to consider is coming here more often and keeping in communication with us fine folks getting as much support as you possibly can. There are some folks I know who only have online support and though its not the same as literally in person it gives them hope and encouragement. In addition, consider a daily journal of your activities including eating, drinking, exercising, vitamins, fluids and mental status. Don't let your surroundings get you down. Have you looked within the community to possbily establish a walking group or a social get together?

Hope some of this helps you. Keep in mind we're here for the long haul. All best!

Michael - don't lose hope!  Adjusting is always hard.  Good idea with getting started in the gym and try to make the best choices with the hospital menu that you can.

Just hang out here and get your support here and keep looking to find another great support group.  You can be our Kentucky Virginian!  :)

Hugs,
Lauren
