When They Don't Like What You Chose To Do

Hey All,

I had what was to have been my nutritional eval by someone on Ft. Belvaor yesterday.  There was no question that this woman feels very strongly that better choices would solve all my problems.  I went to her rather than pay for the service out of pocket.  First I thought she was pushing gastric surgery, but then I realized that she either didn't feel I need any  type of surgery or that anyone overweight was just lazy.  I left angry and confused, she was pushing at me what the Army base wants done, not my civilian doc.  I was finally smart enough to call the nutritionist that the doc suggested (what I should have done first) and found that there wasn't a cost to me and she is in full support of those who have tried all those dang diets that we keep failing at.  I see her Mon. and hopefully my paperwork will get submitted by the middle of the month for approval. I was really shocked that the woman I saw was able to make me feel so bad without saying anything that was directly negative.  This is new for me because I have never had to confront an-others disapproval of my decisions on anything.  I am sure many have found fault in me, I have just never been this aware of it.

I have an issue with my Psych. Eval and I learned that your doctor knows best when referring you to certain ones. Congrats on beginning your journey to WLS.

Small world! When I noticed you were also from K.G. just had to drop you a message. I actually have never posted on this board. I post on the Duodenal Switch board.  Which procedure are you getting?

Start thinking up some good responses now to those type of opinions because it is likely that you will get more of the same.  One of my favorites "I am glad you think it is the easy way out, until you experience it you wouldn't really understand, thank goodness it is my choice & my body."  Best to you on your journey.

I'm so sorry that you left the appt feeling the way you did.  Carry on with your plan and don't let any person get in the way.  YOU know what you need to do and no one else should change this very important decision.  Cheers to good health and happiness in the future!!

Most surgeons do know best when they refer you.  They have experience working with certain professionals.  Things only get harder from here with the comments.  As Courtney stated...start thinking of good responses now!  I wish you all the luck for a speedy submission and approval!

Opinions vary. Turn others negativity into determination. Its unfortunate but its how lots of folks are. Until someone walks in your shoes that don't get it. :) All best!
