Teachers Insurance in Virginia
Hi! Welcome! I'm not a teacher so I am not sure if each teacher has the same insurance or if it varies by county or locality but one of our own, SarahRuth23, who had RNY in July, is a teacher with a local county am sure she'd be happy to answer any questions or help you if she can. I teach in Henrico County - I don't know if the insurance is the same for all counties in the state, but I know mine stayed the same from Albemarle to Henrico. I have Southern Health. And no, they didn't cover my RNY at all. They told me that Henrico County chose not to include the weight loss surgery rider so there was no way to get them to pay for it and my surgeon's office agreed. I did self pay. (I'm the same Sarah that Theresa mentioned. You're welcome to PM me of course

The insurance does vary from locality to locality but may stay the same if that is what the area chose. Additionally, if you have enough comorbidities then they may still cover it as a medical necessity. I work for an insurance company. Be prepared to fight though!
