OK, i know this may seem petty to some but my SIL's present to the family was a gift basket of BREAD.  She knows i can't eat carbs, (she visited us in october) that bread if my downfall (before surgery), so why on earth would she send us a basket of BREAD>  i just needed to get this off my chest, i'm so darn mad.  i'm sending her steaks next year, she's a vegetarian...

Hi lysb,
Will the rest of the family be able to eat the bread. If not, a homeless shelter may take the bread for their participants.
Thanks,
 Cindy

OMG you are too funny and think exactly like I do.  Steaks it is - or steak of the month club.  I might also send a lovely thank you card to her that read something like...."Thank you so much for thinking of us during the holidays.  As you know we are cutting bread out of our diets, but have  donated your generous gift to (name the homeless shelter) to spread the cheer"

Oh you're good, you can actually sound NICE while still getting the point across.  My thank you note would have said something different, for sure!  HA HA.

What an a$$hole.  I have NO other way to put this.  She is insensitive.  Period.

I second sending steaks next year.  In fact, send steaks, pork, chicken, and deer just to be sure she get's the point.  And you may have been kidding, but I'm completely serious...steaks are definately in order.  ;)

OH and I forgot something before I hit send, you are NOT alone.  We all have a-holes in our life.  My mother for one.  In planning for my birthday next month, last week she told me she found "the best platter" which will fit my birthday cake perfectly!  WOOHOO.  I said "What cake?".  In short, she is planning on "making me a cake" of which only her, my dad and Nate can eat. (aka this cake would NOT be sugar free)  Ummmm, okay, try again.  I seriously wanted to punch her in the face.  I told her she was completely insensitive and that if she needed or wanted to make a damn cake she should find another reason.  I mean are you KIDDING me?  Is it not enough that I sit there EVERY damn time we have dinnner with them while they all have dessert, but now we are making me cakes I can't eat.  I swear to c...

Oh, see I wouldn't wait until next year.  I would send them now with a note that says:

"I hope you enjoy these steaks as much as I enjoyed the bread you sent.  Happy New Year!"

My mom totally took over the Christmas dinner I was suppose to make and it was at her house.  She made a prime rib after telling her I CAN not eat beef.  It hurts my stomach.  UGH.  Then she made fattening mashed potatos, greese filled green beans, and this heavy fat and calororic  veggie casserole.  What did I eat?  Cheese and pepperoni from the platter she got.  She made these hudge portion filled plates for my children and wondered why they did not eat hardly any of their food.  Um, well, my kids don't eat that stuff and they eat small portions.  Frustrating.

Though it seems very insensitive of her, why not give her the benefit of the doubt? Maybe she was thinking she'd make something that showed she cared enough to take the time to bake rather than just picking any old thing off the shelves?  Maybe she figured that you are used to depriving yourself and that the family could enjoy the bread. LOL

Though its fun to think of the many beefy ways to send her a message....... I'd stick with the high road.  Ugly feelings make stress, which makes cortisone which will try to trap the fat and slow your weight loss.  ;)  Okay yeah that was a stretch.

Smile. Nod. Say "Thank you", and let it go.

A coworker made mango smoothies for my birthday. I'm allergic to mango--I found this out right after I had surgery and tried to get down my yucky crushed meds with mango sorbet.  Everyone heard this story.  She just forgot....... I just thanked her for her thoughtfulness and went on about my business.  THe point being, nobody thinks as much about our diets as WE do.   Nor should we expect them to. I guess it rubs a bit more because she is vegetarian and you probably bend over backwards to accomodate her.  Anyhoo......just let it go. Not worth the aggrivation of being upset because she didn't think anything beyond wanting to give you a gift.
