Help my hair still hasn't grown back in!
Has anyone tried the Bariatric Advantage vitamins?
I read that they are better than taking Flintstones Complete for growing your hair back. Feb. will be 3 years out for me & my hair still has not grown back in...I mean a little more hair loss & I'll need a piece on top! (LOL)
My nutritionist said that I would need to take a lot more of the BA's per day to equal the Flintstones plus they're very costly!
I eat the right amounts of protein & take all my vitamins except for the calcium I seem to fall behind by 1 or 2 servings a day! For some reason I just can't seem to remember to take it every 2 hours!
What have y'all tried?
A big "THANK YOU" in advance.

My opinion is that Flintstones (of any type) are fine immediately post op. Heck, my surgeon even recommended them because they are chewable, but once someone is able to swallow vitamins, Flintstones should be replaced by an adult vitamin, even if it is an adult chewable vitamin.
Also, it would seem to me that it would be the other way around. That you would need to take alot more Flintstones to equal an adult vitamin. My surgeon has recommended to me Biotin, for the hair loss. But that was recommended to me at about 2 or 3 months out. I'm not sure if the same would be recommended to someone out as far as you.
As for me, I do a multi vitamin, store bought from Walmart and I do 3 a day, morning, mid day and late evening. I do a vitamin D with morning and late evening and 2 Biotins with morning and late evening. I do my calcium in between my multi vitamins since they can not be taken with iron. I also do a monthly B-12 injection. All of this is by order of my Nurse Practitioner at my surgeon's office and even though I have only had my levels checked twice, they are, for the most part, great so far. But because I was a severe diabetic, I do get my blood work done more than most WLS patients so she checks everything every 3 months.
Again, I recommend reading the link that Melissa posted and seeing what everyone else has to say but of course, before making any decisions or changes, please talk with your surgeon's office.
Good luck

I have tried the flintstones Complete. But love the Natures Made Multi's you can get Walgreens. They are small, and work well.
For your hair to grow back, Try Biotin. I had severe hair loss when going through my illness with symptoms with WLS.
Good luck,

I did the chewable flinstones for a month post op as suggested and then switched to an adult vitamin once I could swallow pills.
As for hair loss, becuase the loss is so startling I really didn't think I saw any regrowth either, but then I started noticing my hair being a bit fuzzier and sure enough upon closer inspection all of the fuzzies could be the new growth coming in.
I did not take biotin this past year mainly because I didn't want to suck down any more pills, but after hearing a friend tell how much her hair grows (ALOT of growth) and that was the only thing she changed up, I decided to add it into my regime. I do think Tammy is right on and it will be a while before I notice the/if any change. Unfortunately the studies I've read online do not support biotin or the "hair skin and nails" variety supplements as actually doing anything, but I figure at this point, what could it hurt. Heck even if it helps my nails get a bit stronger I'm ahead of the game!
Good luck!
