Hi Everyone,

I recently had the lapband procedure (12/23). I am having a hard time getting in all my protein. It's really the only liquid I am getting in. It seems that I fill up so fast and stay full for hours.... is this normal??

Thanks. I am looking forward to getting to know you all.

First let me say welcome to our board! Hope you get all the information and support you are looking for.

Now, While I am not a bander, I did have my lap RNY almost 8 months ago. For the first few weeks, it was extremely hard to get all my protein in, let alone all the liquids that my surgeon requires, which was 64 - 100 ounces of fluids and 60 - 80 ounces of protein. i am sure though, that fellow banders will jump in on this post to help you!

You did just have your surgery 4 days ago. It is going to be hard, at least for a while to get in all that you are supposed to but keep trying. A little bit more each day. If you still feel that you are not doing as well as you think you should be, by all means, please call your dr but I wouldn't be so hard on yourself. Remember, sip & walk, walk & sip. If you have questions or just need a friend, feel free to pm me.

Congratulations on your journey. And I look forward to getting to know you as well & seeing you post more often!

Thank you so much for your feedback! I can be so hard on myself! I've been trying to do everything "right" and forget to just relax and let it unfold. I must have been out of my mind to have the surgery right before the holidays, but my work schedule would only permitt this time. Although it's difficult now, I will look back in time and realize this is the best Christmas gift I could have given myself.
Thanks again!

Ditto to what the others have said.  I am an RNYer, too.  When in doubt...contact your surgeon!  Good luck!

Oh you are very welcome! I can relate to a not so good timing on the surgery date. Mine was April 30, and 2 weeks to the day of me coming home from the hospital was my son's birthday party. A scheduled cook out, cake, ice cream. I managed it just fine, without picking and no one ever even noticed.

Congratulations on making this decision. Follow your own advice and relax, do what you were instructed too & when you have a question or are unsure of something, just call your surgeons. That's what they are there for!

Hugs!

Hi Lori,

Welcome & congrats on your surgery! I'm not versed in Lap Band as I had Lap RNY but there are a few folks here who will hopefully shed some light on this for you. I do understand its slow going in the beginning just as with RNY. I would suggest you talk with your surgeon's office first and foremost as well as other Lap Banders. All best!

Hi & Welcome!  I am a RNY'er also so can't be exact but I suspect that it is pretty similar to what we went through and it will be difficult for the first few weeks to get it all in.  Just keep making the effort.

Hello!  I see other ladies have already said what I would say.  Just take it one day at a time and you will have an easier time meeting all your requirements as time goes by.  :)

Hey, I'm a bander and I understand what you're going through.  I don't think your problem is unique to the lapband procedure.  As for me, I actually set alarms on my watch to go off every 3 hours and I made myself eat or drink something (hungry or not).  The stomach is swollen for a while after surgery and so it's normal to not feel any hunger; however, it is still important to get your protein in.  I made myself eat or drink things that were high in protein so I made sure to get my 60 minimum in.  My usuals were cottage cheese, yogurt, Slim Fast high protein chocolate shakes, tuna and chicken salad (band friendly and pureed while I was on soft foods of course), refried beans with a little sprinkle of cheese, ricotta cheese with a little spaghetti sauce on top...you get the idea.  If you need any more help please feel free to PM me anytime.  : )  Congrats on making the decision to change your life and get  healthy!

Congrads on your sugery!!  Just do the best you can for right now, your still swelled from the surgery.  I noticied your bmi is the same as mine was when I started and now Im at around 37 so you have allot to look forward to.  Come over to the Lapband forum and ask any question you have.  Take care.
