My Christmas spirit is missed placed right now, hoping to find it. I am the live in care taker of a 61 yr old woman who has had two strokes, for the last yr we have been battling all kinds of medical crisis. Well the toughest one hit us last Thursday, I receive a text from her brother that she was back in the ER at Fair Oaks, She had been in a nursing home for some short term rehab. When I got to the ER she was on a ventilator, her BP was low, he O2 level was low, and she was in kidney failure, had a temp, was dehydrated. Well she is still on the vent, but she now has MRSA, and acute respiratory distress syndrome. Her kidneys are getting better. Today we are going to try to get the morphine and the ativan turn off to see if we can get her to communicate with us, to find out how her back pain is doing and get her to try to do some breaths on her own, so we can get her off all the tubes.
I'm scared of anything happening to her, for so many reasons, I care about her alot, she is a wonderful person that would be great missed if she passes on, but  a very selfish reason is if she passes on, I will have no place to live. She is on section 8 housing and if she dies I have to be out, that scares the heck out of me, but I know the good lord provides and I must trust and believe in him and I do, but it's still scary as heck.

I'm writing here because I needed a safe loving place to bring my concerns and thoughts. I know so many other people are dealing with so many of their own issues and family members in need, but I also know that the VA members lift each other up and help even if tings are crazy for them, to me that is true family, and I am thankful to be apart of this great big family.

Heide,

Thanks for sharing with us here. We are like a big family and support each other as best we can. I understand your concerns and with Christmas being as close as it is it can be scary. I would assess the situation and maybe start looking into an agency that provide services?jobs for live-in caregivers. Just a thought. Anyways keep us updated and hope you have a wonderful Holiday!!

What a scary situation for the both of you. I know I would be scared. I will pray for both of you, and feel free to vent. It really helps sometimes.

Heide, I'm glad you shared with us.  I've got you and your friend/employer in my thoughts and prayers.  I hope that she comes through and I also hope that you can find peace if she doesn't.  I would at least get myself a backup plan, start looking at agencies who can set you up in another live-in situation when the time comes.  There is no reason why you shouldn't get your name and resume out there for future needs.  :)  Please have a happy holiday!
