I forgot to meniton that I am starting to get my medical bills. St. Mary's was $56k, surgeon around $6500, others around another $5000, so close to $67,000. I plan to post actual numbers here on the site once I get around to it.

WOW!!! that is astronomical! I remember weeks and months after my surgery, I was afraid to check the mail. Because my insurance doesn't do pre-authorizations before surgery, I had no way of knowing if it would be something that they covered. About 2 months after my surgery, I received a phone call from Commonwealth Surgeon's business office. It was an automated call just telling me to contact them. It unfortunately was after hours so until 830 the next morning, I was so nervous. Thank god it was just an automatic generated call and not one demanding payment.

I knew the cost of my surgery would be slightly more than normal since my surgery took a few hours more than usual and I did spend 3 days in ICU but was SO VERY RELIEVED to receive only 1 bill and that was for $4.

My heart goes out to those that are self pay but I am sure, well most sure, that in the end, it will definitely be well worth it.

WOW!  I know it is a lot.  I only had to pay three co-pay's ($20.00 each), one to my surgeons office, one to the cardio doc and one to the cardio office that did my venus dopplar study.  I will be praying for you.  I do think it will be worth it.  I remember getting my EOB's and thinking I could have NEVER done it without insurance...mine was over 200,000 and then I was readmitted twice for 5 days each time and each of those was over 75,000.  Knowing my results now I would have done self pay just to get here...no matter what I had to do.  You are in my prayers and I am anxious to see the "final" numbers!

Whoa!!! Since we are business owners, I was able to add weight loss to my insurance plan. That was $129/month for a year, plus we had a $2000 out of pocket.

Be careful if you drop the WLS rider.  If your new insurance (or the plan with the dropped rider) does not carry WLS and you have ANY problem that can be atributed to WLS...it most likely will be denied as a complication.  You may need to keep the rider forever...but still an expense I would pay!

Now I'm scared Tammy. Since I started at the bank I have their insurance and dropped the other. Are you saying that if I have to have gallbladder out it won't be covered under my new insurance. Please let me know.

It is possible...anything that COULD be WLS related may be excluded from your coverage...not trying to scare you but it is the truth.

I went into this process with insurance covering it as long as I met the requirements (which I did)  and came out of it with a bill for $92K  that I owe. My dr. office didnn't wait for pre-authorization for surgery as they said the insurance company had no reason to deny me( i didnt know this) and 3 hrs into my surgery the insurance company called dr. office and denied my surgery. So now I was slapped with a bill I cant pay. And you wanna know why my insurance company denied me?  I did my 6month supervised diet but they said 6 months equals 180days(didnt say that on benefits papers of requirements)  I did 166days!!!
