I was loosing weight pretty steady, a pound to two per day. Now for the last week or so, I actually gained 5 pounds and then lost 3 and don't seem to be loosing anymore.

Is this normal? I know I am not eating right, maybe only get one meal per day.

Stalls are completely normal. Eating one time a day is very bad though. There is no way you can be getting all your protein you need in. Make sure you take care of your new body. I know that we don't have hunger, so it makes it harder. If you don't want to eat, make sure you are at least getting protein drinks in. It is so important. Good luck!

Ken you just answered yourself.   "I know I am not eating right."       One meal a day your body is most likely in starvation mode.

3 meals, 2 protien suppliments a day and 64 ozs if fluid.    No sugar or sodas.

Hey Ken,

Stalls are normal for us all. They happen throughout our journeys and some can last days to months. What seems to work is changing up your routine. Based on your statement that you are not eating right that is one of the first places you should start. Up your protein, get in "good" fluids (water, Crystal Light etc), exercise daily and get back to basics.

If you find you are having issues please consider contacting your surgeon's office and talking with the nutritionist there to get some better ideas of foods, fluids, etc. Each office instructs their patients to get in a specific amount of protein. Mine says 60-80 grams. Personally I shoot for 80 grams or more per day. As for "good fluids mine says at least 64 oz. I shoot for at least 100 oz.

Make small goals and work on them and keep to a schedule if possible. You might consider making a food journal to include what you are eating, drinking and how often you are exercising. Water + Protein + Exercise = Weight Loss.

Can you please tell me what your typical menu is for the day? I am lucky to get 30 grams of protein in. I think I do ok on fluids, not sure if it is considered good fluids, but we have always drinked decaf iced tea with splenda and I get in atleast 4 or 5 large glasses fo that each day.

Typical meal (Monday thru Friday...weekends are different since I am not at the office)

protein shake as soon as I get up, while I am getting ready for work

breakfast: boiled egg and some low fat yogurt, sometimes the greek yogurt with some fruit added

snack:  two pieces of string cheese, maybe some crackers

lunch:  salad or half of a sandwich and a pritein shake about an hour later

snack:  some kind of fruit, preferably fresh

dinner: for me it is usually beef or steak as I do not tolerate chicken or pork very well and some veggies

protein drink before bed

I LOVE the EAS AdvantEdge low carb chocolate flaver from Wal-Mart.  Unflavored Unjury is great, too.  Have you tried these?

Hey Ken,

**I am up early every am and NOT a breakfast eater right away.**

Each am I drink a protein shake to get my day going. That's 17 gm of protein right there. I drink EAS AdvantEDGE Carb Control RTD (I bolded that because there is also Myloplex which is FULL of carbs and NOT good for us) protein found at any Walmart 4.97 for a 4 pk in chocolate (they have vanilla and strawberry but I don't care for either).

**Now & then when I'm out of those I'll take a packet of No Sugar Added Carnation Instant Breakfast and add a 1/3 cup non-fat dry milk to skim milk. This equals 21 gm of protein.

I drink coffee up until I have my oatmeal which is about an hour later. I eat Low Sugar Maple & Brown Sugar Quaker Oatmeal. I eat it with water mixed in instead of milk because milk & I have a love/hate relationship.

I have a snack usually cheese, turkey pepperoni or yogurt about 2 hours later.

For lunch I typically love eating salads with either chicken breast or turkey along with few greens and lots of veggies. At times which I enjoy greatly given the season is soup (usually chicken noodle w/ veggies) and a 1/2 sandwich. I will eat grilled cheese with provolone or muenster on double fiber wheat bread minus the crust. If I'm going out some place I'll opt for a Wendy's Chili or a salad from Ukrop's or the house salad with light dressing.

About 2 hours later I'll have some veggies (I get the no salt added small cans of veggies) or fruit. Typically blueberries or cantaloupe/honeydew. Sometimes yogurt or a granola bar. A lot of times I'm just not hungry so I'll have another protein drink in place of the food. **I get in at least 2 protein drinks per day.**

For dinner I usually enjoy fish, chili, soup or chicken with veggies. I love to eat crab legs and crab crakes as well as beef when I can tolerate it. My focus is almost always protein first then the rest to follow.

As for fluids as I said previously I shoot for at least 100 oz. I used to struggle with how to get that in. So, I mapped out a plan of attack. I'm getting in 18 oz. in the with my protein drinks, Then I fill a 32 oz bottle up and focus on getting it down in the first 5 hours of the day. Just after lunch its gone and I refill it again for another 32 oz. That's 82 oz. Typically throughout the day when I'm walking I'm drinking at least a bottle of water WHILE walking. That's another 16.9 oz. for a total of almost 100 oz. Many days I surpass this.

Excercising matters in what ever capacity you do it in. I find something that helps is a walking partner or someone you can check in with and sort of have a running tab. How much did you walk today? How much did they walk today? Make small goals and try to meet and beat them. You might be surprised by the amount of walking we do without really knowing it.

Also, considering parking further away every place you go. I do this even now. The buggas think I'm crazy because at Walmart last pm we parked in a spot pretty far away and Kayla said well I guess we are getting in our exercise. Did I mention its one of the busiest Walmarts and its the week before Christmas???

Planning ahead helps. When do you get breaks? Lunch? Take advantage of the breaks to walk and get in a protein drink. For lunch, try eating for the 1st portion of it and walking for the 2nd portion. Walking is free and one of the best and easiest ways to exercise. Its cold outside. Wrap up in layers. Take a bottle of water. Put on your iPod or Mp3 player with music you dig and move your rear.

Food journal. Any sheet of paper will work. I have a basic one. Its lists everything from my meals to vitamins to water/fluid intake to exercise and even questions to ask me about my day so that I can understand how I'm feeling and what triggers my moods and maybe why or why not when it comes to lacking in some areas. Its holding yourself accountable to yourself. Keep in mind we are all different as are our journeys.

Are you taking all your vitamins as well? They are extremely important!

I'm here to help so let me know what you need. Jeannine is fantastic. Please call her. Use your patient handbook for lots of help as well. It gives a lot of examples of foods to boost us and exercises etc. You should have got a list of protein foods as well. If not, please let me know & I'll type it up and send it to you or ask Jeannine for it.

All best!

The others have stated exactly what I would have said...especially Kat.  Starvation mode is not a good thing.  I sometimes went weeks without eating a thing since the thought of food did repulse me and made me gag...but I ALWAYS had my protein shakes (sometimes 4-5 per day) and my 100 oz of water and skim milk.  It is not healthy but I had other issues, too.  Call Jeannine!  That is what she is there for.  She can give you great suggesstions.

Hi Ken,

Yes we all go through stalls. Recently I made a post about advice that was given. I increased my water and starting walking. Each day for 4 days I lost 1 pound(so 4 pounds in 4 days). And as stated previously, you have to have more than 1 meal a day. I was told by my nut in the beginning that I was not eating enough to make my bowels move regular (sorry to be graphic).

PS...How's the satellite business? We are having a great end of the year. Sales are slow, but we are getting alot of fulfillment jobs.

Not having a regular schedule during the day makes it hard to get meals in. I hate protein shakes, I tried South Beach Protein Bars and didn't care for them either. They made me feel funny.

It is just hard to do. I also do not get any exercise. Mornings are not good and when you get home in the cold and dark evenings, I am not motivated to do anything, if I even have the evening off. Normall I have a meeting of some sort or family function.

We don't do fulfillment orders, just ours. We don't advertise and don't pu**** a lot, but I did sell 4 systems this past week. One included a new computer system. But overall, we are slow.
