Liquid Intake

Hi everyone, I have a question about liquid intake. I am getting in about 1/2 a liter of liquid a day. My Dr. does not like this and said it should be 11/2 liters a day! He sent me for lab tests today to make sure I am not dehydrating. I just can't get anymore in because my stomach gets so bloated! Did you all get in 1 1/2 liters of liquid in on your first week post-op? I just want to make sure I am not doing something majorly wrong.

I was lucky if I got 16ozs a day. I know it was imposible for me to intake water in high volumes. Remember your soup,broth and popsicles count as liquid too. Good Luck

Thanks Melanie, I am glad I am not the only one that can't get all that liquid in! I also forgot I could have popsicles, I am going to go out today to get them.

Wow. Seriously its wishful thinking. For me personally NO I didn't get that much liquid intake going that early on. I did however sip, sip, sip often. Eventually you'll pick up in liquids. It is important because we can dehydrate so much faster post-op. I wish you the best.

Nope...didn't get too much in but did get quite a bit.  I counted my protein drinks as liquid (4 per day @ 8 ounces each), did my best to get in 20 oz of water (I ate a lot of ice chips...I got a cup and filled it then let it melt down so I knew approx how much I was getting my eating the ice chips...this was usually 10-12 ounces) and I had the broth and sf popsicles.  You WILL get there...just do the best you can.  You should be able to add a little more (even if it is only an ounce!) per day.  Just try your best and you will get there!
