How do you handle the scale not cooperating as much as you would like?

Tip – Keep your eye on the prize

The long term prize I mean.  It’s so easy to compare your results to someone else’s.  Be discouraged when the scale doesn’t move for a week or so, maybe gain a pound or two back.  Focus on where you started, where you are today and what your long term goal is.  It’s not a race, it’s just you getting healthier and happier.  You leading a longer and more fulfilling life and the scale WILL eventually show you the results you are shooting for.  Just give yourself and your body time to adjust, tweak a few things with suggestions from your nutritionist or exercise trainer, take your measurements, check out how your clothes feel looser on you.  And most important, be patient.  :)

For me, it’s not even about a number.  Although I went ahead and set a goal weight for myself, my motivation to have surgery was to have kids and the weight I had decided on it being safe to do so was 200lbs.  So for me, as far as I’m concerned I’m at “goal”, it’s just a different kind of goal.  Now I’m just waiting out my time until it’s safe to start trying for a baby (18months per my surgeon).  And you know what?  THAT is the exciting part.  The fact that even though the scale is moving much, much slower these days almost a year out.  I’m so close to starting a family.  WOOHOO!

I hope all of you are experiencing or will experience what a wonderful day it is to look back and see how far you’ve come and how you changed for the better.  Cheers to health and wellness!

Hi Lauren :)

Interesting read. Thanks for posting this. I'm going to use this as one of my journaling points this pm. Its not about a number for me either. Initially it was but I've learned through many ups and downs that I'm ME and comparing myself to others isn't what works. Each of us has a different journey and with different weight loss numbers and progress. I'm grateful for my blessings. Thanks.

So well said Lauren. You will get your family started so soon. I am so excited for you. It's such a great experience!!

Everyone is always asking how much do I want to loose. I don't really know either. When I feel comfortable in my skin is when I will stop.

Brooke...your body should tell you when to stop.  I was "comfortable" long before I stopped but honestly I was extremely happy where I did finnaly stop at.  Now the question is...can I make it back there after Froggy is born???

Brooke - peopl,e are asking me how much MORE i want to lose, and when i say 30-40 lbs, they look shocked (OK, i'm still over 200 people, let me be).  I'm so much more comfortable in my skin, but on the other side, much more critical of myself and how I look NOW, isn't that strange?  Brooke, i hope you are feeling well these days, keep up the good work!  lys

I set a realistic goal and my surgeon and nurse practitioner were both very happy with it.  I went into this journey stating if I could make it to onederland (199) then I would be happy and content and everything else would be icing on the cake that I could not eat.  I surpased that number by over 50 pounds and am grateful for every one of them lost!  I had thought it was lost forever...but I will get back there if it is in God's plan!
