Hair Thinning

Increased protein and use of Biotin thicker up my hair.  I didn't think I was losing too much until I saw my 50th birthday pictures and my hairline had receeded rather significantly.  It has 98% returned. 120 gms protein and 1 biotin every morning (not at night as they also help to create energy.  Good luck with the cut.  Remeber you're beautiful with or without hair, so cut it any way you like and be happy.  Short grows back and long gets trimmed.
Of course, you could shave your head, get a tatoo there and let the hair grow back to cover it up.  Now thats wild and crazy!!!

I'm with some of them...short hair would be good, but not a pixie cut:) And kinda off topic, I thought if you eat enough protein you wont get hair loss....I love my hair, I don't think I can bear the thought of loosing it.

That is what my surgeons office told me too.  But, I'll just speak to my own experience, I have been very careful about getting in my protein during all of the past year and I still experienced hair loss.  Some online research found that major surgery and rapid loss can contribute.  I know several people who have had bypass with no hair loss.  Just keep on track with your program and hopefully you'll be one of the lucky ones.  :)

Eating or consuming all of your protein HELPS with not losing your hair but it can not be 100% prevented.  It is your body's way of reacting to anesthesia.  I know a lot of folks that lose tons of hair after a c-section for example.  Take a supplement (biotoin or a hair/skin/nails vitamin) and make sure you get all of your protein in (more if you can) and this will HELP!

Lauren -0 as a girl with naturally curly hair, i HEAR ya.  Noone really notice the hairloss, BUT, when i tried to put it back in a bun it was barely a 1/4 to 1/2 thick in the back.  I recently went to a new hairstylist, we're growing out the top, straightening it somewhat and making a longish bob (does that make sense).  There is TONS of hair growth coming in as we speak, i hghly recommend taking biotin, i'm 8 months out now and the hair is finally coming back!  I hope you have a great thanksgiving, and that the hair worries fade to the background.  Lys

I've read mixed reviews on biotin.  I got myself a bottle early on and then with not wanting to take anymore pills, I ditched it after a few doses.  I might look back into it.  I don't think I notice new growth, but then again, I don't know what the heck it would look like with my hair so long.  I do look a bit fuzzier on the top when I don't use a styling creme.  I guess that could be some new growth.  I'm going to have to inspect my scalp after I get showered and dressed later today.  :)

Hi Lauren,

I faced hair loss as well and Biotin did help significantly. You might consider taking it once again.

What did you decide to do with your hair?

I gave it a good healthy trim of 3in off.  It is still long and looks much better (I think).  I did get some color and highlights, but unfortunately after playing with it for a few days I don't like it and am going to call to see if I can get an appt to redo it.  I hate to have to do that, but I'm really not feeling the color so we need to get it back to something I can deal with.  :)

The biotin really helps!  I had been taking hair/skin/nails but have stopped while preggers.  I am not sure if it is really safe so I am just being safe rather than sorry!  I am with the others...I think a shorter do would be nice...but not super short!  Also, now may not be a great time to color your hair.  Coloring damages and you do not need any more damage...you need healthy locks!  Post a new avitar when you are happy with what you have!  I can't wait to see.
