Hi I don't know you personally but I've enjoyed reading your post and learning things. I am 9 months out and have so much problem with my bones, esp. in my back and hips. I cry almost everyday with this pain, well I had my bloodwork check out when I was 7 months out and was told that everything was ok. I went to to my family dr. about my back and she did another blood test, and low and behold I was lacking Vit. D very low, so she put me on vitamin D and more calcium. I have another appt. with my weight surgeon in Dec. so we will see just what is going on.
I will keep you and Penny and myself in prayer for this problem with our blood.
Thanks for posting as I keep alot of things inside also and don't share . Have a Blessed Thanksgiving.

But I also hear your fear about the Vit D thing and in a lot of cases most doctors do not know what doses to provide anyone. You can overdose on it so be careful. Here is something I pulled up from the Mayo Clinic
Vitamin D
How much vitamin D do I need?
If you have been told to take a vitamin D supplement, a dose between 400-800 International Units (IU) per day is safe and potent. Older patients should take the 800 IU/day dose. Almost all multivitamins contain 400 IU/day. Also, many vitamin D supplements can be bought at most drug stores, food stores, and health food stores. Many calcium supplements also contain vitamin D in the right amount.
Can I get my vitamin D requirements from foods?
Very few foods are naturally rich in vitamin D. Milk is most often fortified with 125 IU of vitamin D per glass. There is also some vitamin D in eggs, organ meats, and fish such as salmon, sardines, and herring. Vitamin D is also manufactured in the skin right after direct exposure to sunlight. Sunlight exposure to the hands, face and arms for as little as 5-15 minutes, 2-3 times per week is helpful to produce vitamin D.
So if your multivitamin also contains it you may just want to supplement an extra 400 - 800 IU per day to start with and get it checked to see if what you are taking is helping.
I am always here for you! You are in my thoughts - don't be a stranger - you have always been here for me and for that I am eternally grateful....
much love

I'm so sorry to hear about everything you're going through recently. My endocrinologist put me on 1000 IUs of Vitamin D over a year ago when I had some low readings. He called it the Virginia Syndrome; that at the latitude that VA is during the winter, we don't' get enough D from the sun because of the way VA and everything north of Va is pointed to relationship to the sun. We need at least 20 minutes of sun daily, year round to produce Vitamin D.
I am 56 years old and don't know if my requirements are higher than yours based on age or not.
Hope this helps a bit!

Prayers coming your way, for sure. A year ago my pcp found out I was vitamin D deficient. Labs done through my surgeon never revealed the deficiency. (We have the same surgeon.)Though my thyroid is fine, the thought of being deficient with this vitamin is scary. My doc, like others have posted, placed me on vitamin D therapy. After a year, my levels are normal.
Not sure about the bone eating issue. Hopefully the deficiency was detected early enough that all will be fine.
Thanks for sharing.
