Anesthesia??

Me again!  I am probably going to "20 question" you guys beyond belief before this is over with.

Some of you already know, but for those of you that don't - my biggest fear of this surgery is the anesthesia.  I haven't been put to sleep for any kind of surgery since my youngest son was born 21 years ago.  I am quite sure that technology has changed since then.  Can anyone share their Anesthesia experience with me? Specifically anyone that used Dr. Anez.   Did they give you something for your nerves before they took you to the OR?  Do you remember going to the OR?  How long were you under?

Thanks!!

Donna,

Bring those 20 questions on!  We are ready to help.

I did not use the same group but my experience was great.

No, I did not get anything for my nerves but it was offered.  I did have some numbing injenction before getting my epidural and central line.  I remember being wheeled into the OR and thinking it was FREEZING in there and them telling me to help get myself onto the OR table.  Then the anesthesiologist said I couldn't help do anything b/c I had an epidural.  I remember one nurse holding one hand and the anesthesiologist holding the other, a mask being stretched down from over my head and I was told to breathe. Then they asked me to count back from 100...I remember making it to 96.  The next thing I remember I was waking up to a nurse saying there was someone there to see me and I opened my eyes to my hubby standing there with flowers, a balloon and a teddy bear.  I had no issues or problems.  They knew up front that I had fears and they addressed them each one by one.  I never felt alone and always felt calm.

Hope this helps!

I don't remember taking anything for my nerves.  I arrived thinking I was the first patient but was informed that I was the second.  So I just settled in with a book or magazine or something and waited it out with the hubs.  Shortly after I was called to the back to start to prep, the fist surgery had been cancelled.  It all happened very fast.  Other than the iv tech taking a long time to find a vein, it seemed like in no time I was getting drowsy.  I gave my hubs a kiss goodbye and rolls into the OR,  I don't exactly remember how I got on the table, but remember looking up at the ceiling and then I was gone.  Fast forward to waking up in the recovery room.

:)  It really was no sweat.  NO WORRIES SWEETIE!

Hi Donna,

Dr. Anez did my RNY 5 1/2 years ago at Fair Oaks Hospital.  Yes, I was given something to relax.  I asked ahead of time and was assured they would and I asked again when I was being admitted.  Anesthesia was also my biggest fear - the relaxing drugs helped....yes, they did.  :)  And if you're having open surgery, like I did, you will be in and out of the OR in about an hour.  That doesn't include your time in the recovery room.  Dr. Anez has done so many of these that  he has pretty much perfected it and is very quick.   You'll do fine and life is definitely good once that weight starts coming off.   Congratulations on making the decision to have WLS.

Love,
Gail
