Oldie but Newbie .....

Hi, guys.  I have actually be lurking these boards for the last several years.  I have been scheduled for Gastric Bypass surgery 3 times, and have chickened out all three times.  I am looking for support and encouragment to get me through it this time.  I am getting older and with each each seem to add one more health issue to the list.  In addition, there is a family history of some very serious health issues that I would like to avoid if possible.   The surgery itself doesn't scare me as much as being put to sleep.  Anesthesia scares me BIG TIME.  Don't have any reason to be scared - have only had two surgeries in my entire life and they were C-Sections - and they put me to sleep both times.  The last, however, was 21 years ago. 

I plan to make an appointment with Dr. Anez to begin my preop "stuff".  I've been through all of it before - but it has been a couple of years ago.  This time I am determined to get through this surgery. 

Is anyone else here just getting started, and going to Dr. Anez?  Having a surgery buddy would help!!

Welcome to the boards. It took me 7 years to finally do the surgery. It is all worth it. I am in the Richmond area. I wish the best luck and if you need any support or have questions please feel free to pm and I will help however I can!

Welcome out of Lurkdom!  It is great that you are finally here.  I had surgery 3.5 years ago and was also scared of the anesthesia and the centra line my surgeon utilizies.  I did fine...I luckily had a great surgeon that explained things well and a fantastic anesthesologist that talked me thru things.  I did try to have this done before and was denied.  I took that as a sign that God was not ready for me to have it done.  When I tried again everything fell right into place and I knew the timing was right.  Please ask any and all questions that you have.  Feel free to PM or e mail me and I will do whatever I can to help.  Congrats on your decision!  I will be with you every step of the way if you want me to be!

Fair Oaks has a great anesthesia team.       I came out with no issues.

Donna,  You can DO this!  Focus on your goals and you will get through it.  I know surgery is very scary, have you considered doing therapy to ease your anxiety this time around?
