Okay, who saw it? What did you think?

I myself was kind of annoyed with her whining... wondered if I used to whine that bad about stuff. You KNOW you're not supposed to eat that praline cheesecake (and wow, would I pay a lot of money for a SF recipe for this!) but you do anyhow. You invite your crazy workout-driven girlfriend out to your place, but are surprised that she's up running at 6am?

I hope she does well with this, but coming from that weight range myself, I know that it is ALMOST if not DEFINITELY impossible to achieve on one's own. I almost felt like I was watching a scary movie, and the heroine just decided to run UP the stairs. NO! Don't do that! There's another way.

So after I watched it, I was very confused as to why she hadn't just had surgery. She outweighed ME, and I was in a special group of people who needed an extra SUPER in front of the already "super morbidly obese" that I was. So I went looking, and it turns out she doesn't want surgery. Wow... WHY?

I guess there are still a lot of people out there who consider us "cheaters". Eh. Number one, I'd rather be called "cheater" than "fatty fatty two by four" (my father called me this for most of my childhood), and number two, I'd rather be called "cheater" than be called "deceased".

What kind of movie is this?  Was it on tv or an actual movie?  I have not heard of it...but it intrigues me.  In my opinion....your last paragraph says it all.  I'll be called a cheater anyday....even though we all know that we are definately NOT taking the easy way out!

No, it's not a movie, it's a series on the Style network. It premiered on Sunday.

It is just like any of these other Discovery-type shows... it chronicles the life of a SSMO woman, as she tries to lose weight.

She herself didn't call WLS patients "cheaters" but there HAS to be a reason why she won't have surgery.

Here's a link:

and this is the link where I feel we are kind of being called "cheaters":

I guess I should also add at this point that I applaud this woman, and I kind of like her, but it just seems futile to me....

I think I remember reading something about this in a magazine or the newspaper.  I am going to have to check it out!

Haha, maybe! I know it was probably his way of inspiring me to lose weight, but boy does it hurt.... This is also the man who paid for my surgery, and is the proudest of what I have accomplished, so I don't have any hard feelings about it.

I watched Ruby last night. I thought it was pretty good and I wondered why she didn't have surgery  as well.  I actually wondered why her doctor didn't seem to address the issue at all.  Through the whole show I just kept commenting on the people around her.  When her friend came from LA I thought, finally someone who will tell her what she needs to hear and not what she wants to hear.  She has to do this for herself, but she needs people around her to tell her no.  I loved that they focused on her friends and family and how this is going to affect them, not just about her.  It should be interesting to watch where this goes.  I hope she succeeds and I hope that they have put together a good team.  We all know how hard its going to be as we have all been there.

I was also wondering why the doctor didn't say anything. There are a lot of PCP-type doctors out there who are still uneducated, or worse, against the surgery, I guess. Or perhaps that part ended up on the cutting room floor?

I also liked how they included the family, and I agree that she needs people to encourage her, but I don't think they should be policing her (telling her no, etc) because there's going to come a point where the only person telling able to tell her no is herself. Although if nothing else works but holding herself accountable to friends and family, then more power to her.

The doctor's waiting room broke my heart, too. I remember not being able to fit into chairs with arms, and I also remember my first visit to the surgeon's office... with their big chairs and no arms. I was so grateful for that.

Honestly I had been looking forward to watching Ruby since they first started advertising it.  I was watching some type of clip and she did say she is determined to do it without surgery, but the way she said it sounded like she was one of those that thought WLS was a cop out.  I think it's going to be a great show just because Ruby is very charming.  However, I'm not sure how successful she's going to be, I mean, i think she'll get a good amount of weight off, I mean, she's got precooked meals, a trainer, etc, so I think she'll do ok.  But what are the odds of her keeping it off?  I hope this doesn't sound judgemental, but we all know what it's like.  I'll def. watch the show though, just to see how she does.
