Walking and Eating...

Well, it is almost hard to believe, but I left my office walking yesterday and walked to my wife's work, since she is holding my keys. "Doctor said no driving for 2 weeks" and she is cracking the whip. I walked 1.1 miles then she brought me back to the office to pickup my things.

So not to bad. Open Surgery on Monday, Trick or treating on Friday and Monday I went back to work and worked all day.

Only problem is, I cannot get 60gms of protein in a day. I haven't really eaten at all. Haven't been hungry. Chicken broth, jello and water are bad, CIB isn't bad once per day, but tried one of those test tube protein drinks and threw it away, tried a Boost this morning and threw it away also. My wife bought some cottage cheese last night for me to try and I am not sure unless there is something to mix it with, if I will be able to get that down.

Well Monday, is add the mushy foods day (I hope) and I ordered some Unjury (chocolate, unflavored and chicken) Figured I can make crystal lights with the unflavored and chocolate milk and chicken for a meal.

Anyway, down 37lbs from LSD to today and 2 belt holes tighter. Soreness is still there, but only hurts if I twist the wrong way.

Ken,
Have you spoken with anyone at Dr. Hutcher's office?  I know it is hard!  I don't remember being able to try boost (too much sugar!) And not cottage cheese, either.  It is hard to imagine, but your nerves connecting your new pouch are not healed yet (and it can take months to heal 100%) and eating the wrong things early out can damage you permanently.  No one expects you to get all of your protein in daily this early out.  I was one of the fortunate ones and could tolerate the CIB for the two weeks...although I never want to drink another one again...EVER!  You are doing fabulous on walking and kudos for going back to work.  I would not have even attempted that and one week out!  Keep plugging along and call the office...that is what they are there for!

You my friend are a life saver! I LOVE LOVE LOVE the slightly frozen CIB. Now I can have my milkshakes, and with the powered milk, for extra protein, I don't have to worry that I will fall short on that again! Thanks!

You are kidding ...Right??? You had surgery a week ago on Monday and you are back to work and walking over 1 mile?  Sounds like you are doing fantastic! It took me nearly 6 weeks to return to work and I still felt weak and tired. I did not feel like eating for a long while after surgery. I drank hot tea, sipped on protein drinks and ate SF popsicles.
Keep up the great work, but dont over do it!

Hey Ken! Congratrs on the walking! As Tammy suggested, I'd call the office. I do believe that cottage cheese is in the diet increase when you go in for your 2 week post op check up, it is on the soft food stage, (if I remember correctly). Wouldn't want you pushing yourself to try new things if they are things that aren't on the list for the stage you're on.

And I know that getting the 60 grams of protein is hard. Heck it's hard for me sometimes still, especially on the days that I don't feel like eating. But honestly, I don't think anyone at 1 week post op is able to get all the protein grams in every day. Just do your best.

Good luck on your follow up appointment. Congratulations on your weight loss so far and great job on the walking!!

I only ate one slither of a spoolful and pretty sure the cottage cheese will not make the cut. How do yall eat that?

Oh hun I HAVE NEVER eaten it. It is too damn lumpy for me. That or bleu cheese. To me, things with lumps should not be consumed, especially if it involves, cheese or dairy products. That early out, for mushy's, I stook to applesauce, lol! They do say that ricotta cheese, mixed with fruits, or in other instances, mixed with some kind of spaghetti sauce is a good option but I haven't tried that. As you can see, my problems with eating stem from my lack of variety. I am a creature of habit and my having to smell things is a problem. I promise that it should get better. Good luck hun!
