I have only been on the carnation instant breakfast for two full days. I am not sure I can take them for another 12 days. What else is there to drink? I am not hungry, just need to change the pace... I am having chicken booth right now, but hard to get the proteins without the right stuff.

Are you able to have protein shakes yet? I know every doctor is different. I drink EAS ready to drink protein(chocolate fudge) taste just like chocolate milk. It took me over $200 to find a proetein I can stomach. I would call you doctor and ask what else you can have. Good Luck!!

Hey Ken,

Broth and CIB's are BORING! But, they are beneficial. Consider sugar free ice pops. I still eat those even now! Something that helps with the CIB's are mixing one packet with skim milk and 1/3 cup non fat dry milk for added protein. Hang in there! Keep us posted on how you're doing.

I did slim fast for 2 weeks before surgery without any problem, guess i had the evening meal and apples to look forward to. I lost 27 pounds on that.

Ken,

Dr. H's rules are clear unless he has changed them.  CIB only for two weeks...with the broths and others things on the list...but that is the protein source for us post op.  He knows what works!  Try freezing them partially and eating them with a spoon.  It does break the monotony!  Good luck.  Keeping you in my prayers.

That freezing the CIB is an awesome idea. Almost like a milk shake. I am going to steal this idea and check it out! Thanks!!!

That is exactly how I had mine...kind of like a milkshake.  But no straws...I ate it with a spoon!

I did the CIB for the liquid diet and the post op. I couldn't do the other protein drinks because I smell everything I eat or drink and those have a horrible smell. Even though I didn't have Dr Hutcher, I did have his associate, but I am not sure if they each have the same guidelines. When I was sent home from the hospital, I was on full liquids and was able to have sugar free popsicles and sugar free jellos. I thought I could have a few other things but I'm having trouble remembering right now.

If you have a question about wanting to try something else, give Jeannine a call. I believe Maya is still on maternity leave. Jeannine or one of the nurses should definitely be able to help you. I really wouldn't be beating myself up about the proteins right now. It is almost impossible to get the required amounts, which according to Jeannine is 60-80 grams, so soon out. Just
keep sipping and walking and progress more and more.

Glad to see you posting. Hope this means that you are doing good.

Bummer, I know it's hard to do the same thing for so long.  I just used the slim fast for all my shakes for the pre-op diet and then milk and protein powder post op.  How many servings of CIB are you required to do per day?  Keep counting down those days!
