OT: help me out?

So like many of you, I've had a tough few weeks of it. My mom had been in a nursing home, and recently came home, which means that I'm required to be with her when the neighbor lady can't help out. Fortunately for me, this weekend she is able to be there, so I am free to stay in town. Somehow I got myself into babysitting for a friend of mine on Sunday, so I only have tomorrow "off".

So here's my question: What would you suggest as a good day trip in Virginia? (or eastern W. VA, or southern MD). My boyfriend suggested going up to watch the pumpkin shooting thing that they're doing in Delaware tomorrow, but that's three hours away, and I'm not interested in going somewhere that takes that long to get to, just for a day. Anything outdoors-y, interesting, weird, unusual would be good. With all of the stress that I've been dealing with, I just want something FUN to do. I am also looking to stay within about an hour, or two,  of where I live, so that the travel part of it is not the biggest part.

Thanks in advance for any help you can give... I'm not very good at this sort of thing to begin with, and recently the most fun thing I've done is laundry.

Jules...you crack me up!  Laundry is a riot...one of my fav activities, actually.

I am not too good on things in your area, but here are a few suggesstions...

The Washington Zoo
The Baltimore Aquarium
Luray Caverns
The Zoo in Luray...drawing a blank on the name, but it is AWESOME!
SkyLine Drive

I have been to all of these and always have a blast.  Hope some of these are helpful!

Glad your mom is home and hope and pray she continues to do well.  You are a blessing for helping her out!

Thanks for your suggestions... we also found this Cows N Corn farm thing that we might go to. Hayrides and all of that.

Funny thing is, I actually kind of like doing the laundry too, that's why I said it was the most fun I'd had recently.

Here are a few websites that just might tingle your interests:

and here's one  for Fauquier county, which is where I live:

Have a good time, whatever you do.  I've been taking care of my Mom recently, too, so I know how valuable some "me" time is.

Thanks for the suggestions! Turns out that I ended up doing nothing... well, I did end up doing laundry (ha!) but I also basically hung out at home all day playing Xbox. Turns out that I needed a day at home much more than another day of running around. I enjoyed it.

I am thinking its kinda far but still I'm suggesting Skyline Drive! GORGEOUS this time of year and with the breath taking views and "quiet" time its a sure thing. Hope something great comes together.

I vote for Skyline Drive also, this is the best time of year to go!  If you enjoy walking there are some opportunities for walking trails as well.

Walking is something I definitely need to do more of... was actually thinking about doing a little of that on my lunch break this afternoon.

It is a bit of a drive, but my brother lives up there. We were up there the other week for my niece's birthday, and you're right, it's very pretty. And quiet, and COLD.

As it turns out, my cousin is apparently having surgery on 11/11, and she lives in Winchester, so I think I might find myself there quite a lot as the fall progresses.

Thanks for the suggestion!
