Back pain?

I'm only 2 weeks out of surgery and I'm doing great. I have my first post op appointment today at 10am. I've lost about 15-20 since surgery...i'll have to check my record to be sure. Anyway, I started going for long walks which is strongly encouraged, but everytime I walk more then a block i get a bad upper backache. I have never had upper back pain and only lower back pain when pregnant.

I'm thinking it could be the rapid weightloss? and possibly my body/muscles have not adjusted yet? Anyone else experience this? In 2 months I've lost nearly 40lbs. I didn't spend much time in bed recovering so I don't think it could be lack of use/walking.

thanks

Christy

Christy,

I had similar feelings after surgery so to me it is normal but if you are concerned...check with your surgeon.  Feel better and don't let it 100% discourage you from walks.  Just go a block at a time, several times a day if you have to!

I agree with Tam.  It could be your body's way of telling  "Hey....major surgery here....wanna slow it down a bit".

But, definately call your doc if you are really concerned by it.

BTW....great job at getting out there to move!

I too had pretty bad upper back pain and umm how do I say this... butt pain. lol. But I was in the hospital for a week and then home on oxygen for about a month. I checked with my dr and he said that he expected that. But I would ask. Let us know how it goes.

I too suffer from back pain. I did before surgery and I do now. I think my pain now has a lot to do with my bad posture. I notice the sagging of “the girls” and my stomach has really affected my posture even more so than my normal positioning (which I was never one to align my shoulders back). I try to be conscious of it, but find the more I focus on it, the more the pain gets (go figure) probably from constantly moving around from one awkward position to another. I’m considering ordering one of those back support trainers that would help remind me to sit straighter.

I whole heartedly agree with those who said check with your doctor.  I just had plastics 10 days ago, and found while I was walking the mall yesterday my left SHOULDER really hurt.  I see the doc again tomorrow, and will ask him about it.

Post WLS I had a lot of upper body pain, shoulder in particular, and it was from the air pumped into me for the lap surgery.  It just had to disipate.

It is REALLY important to get -- and WEAR -- a good supportive bra, even now.  don't skimp on this.  It will make ALL the difference in your posture, your back, and keeping your girls in place.

Hang in there, and welcome to the losers' bench!

I am 22 days out from surgery.  I had upper back pain right after surgery.  Getting better but still lingering.    May be from the surgical bed and yes loosing the weight.

Hope you feel better soon.  Take care   Caroline
