12 days post op questions

Okay first i want everyone to know that I'm feeling great and getting better everyday...and doing more and more.

Now, I am supposed to be on protein shakes only. I did try some egg salad the other day (ff mayo and egg only). Only problem was I never got the full feeling. What does it feel like? different then before? I was careful to only have a few bites and chew carefully, but still no full feelings. any advice? I don;t get the full feelings with shakes either.

Maybe TMI, but...stools...it took 6 days to have one and it was reasonably normal...then yesterday I had one that was very dark and kinda scared me....then today some diarrea which was also very dark. I'm hoping this is due to me stopping my pain meds and perhaps the meds were just keeping me from going?

On a happier note I went to an intervew today for seasonal retail work and I got hired on the spot:) I haven't worked on 11 years so I'm scared and excited at the same time.

Thanks :)

Christy

Hi Christy
I had my surgery 2 days after yours and I experience similar with feeling full. I ate so much yesterday and not once did I feel full. I have a different diet post-op then you. As for stools... Mine change in color and consistency all the time so I don't know what that could be. Good Luck

Right now your nerve endings do not have any feelings from the surgery.  It will take a few months for them to grow back and for you to get that "full" feeling.  That is why at this point it is imparitive for you to foolow doctors insturctions on the amount of intake and to measure your food for that intake.  I personally do not like the feeling of full and perfer to eat until I am satisfied.  I still spot measure my food and I burp too when I have had enough.  But getting full is icky for me.

The stools could be normal, I know when I was on full liquids I had runny dark stools and when I switched to mushies did it firm up, a little firm. LOL  But I am not a doctor and if you have any questions, don't hesitate to call them!

Congrats on your job!!  When do you start?

Jeane,

You are banded right?  I am not sure if the same principle aplies to people who are banded because you natural stomach has not been altered except for the band.  Check with you doctor or nutrtionist though!!

It probably doesn't apply to lap banders as we were not really cut other than Laproscopically (sP).  I was just looking for a reason I am getting hungry!

OMG congrats on the job!  Unlike you I do get the full feeling.....and Im always concerned that Im over doing it.  Im not one to measure every little thing I eat, but I have been using the Glad tupperware in the small 4 oz or 6 oz size(im not sure exactly how many ounces it is)and that seems the right amount.  Granted Im putting mushies in there.  So it's stuff like cottage cheese, pureed roasted veggies, soup.  I tried tuna today.  It was a 3 oz fresh pack of tuna and I mixed in mayo and relish. All together it was probably 6 oz and I ate half. I have also baked a potatoe and mashed the inside up with some low fat sour cream. Ate about 1/2. Also doing protien shakes and water.  Im glad your feeling as good as me!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Christy,

As Melissa has said, the nerves are still not healed and will not be for several months.  Please measure everything you consume and do not push what you eat.  You have been put on a regime that your surgeons office has found works.  That is why they tell you what you can and can not have and at what stages.  You trusted them with your life to make you healthy again...now trust them with your recovery!  I know it is hard but it does get easier!

Christy,

For me, I measured the suggested portion sizes for my food since surgery.  Starting with 1-2oz and working my way up to 4oz or a 1/2 cup.  I found that I never really felt full, I was more happy that I was never hungry.  Even today, I still measure, except when I am out at a restuarant and then need to eyeball my portion.  That is where getting full has helped, but I was probably 6 months out of surgery before I felt comfortable enough to do that.  Even today, I think I may eat a little less out just because I don't want to push the limits of getting uncomfortable (or worse sick) in public.

I know this doesn't help you much, but you will get sensitivity in coming months back and then you will "feel" the results of the surgery.  :)
