another calcium question

Please can someone tell me again what chewable calcium they buy. Is there a way to search the old posts so I don't have to keep asking questions that have been answered a million times already?

Thanks,
SherylLynn

I like the chocolate flavor from bariatric advantage.  It can get expensive but I am on the quarterly refill program so I get free shipping.

It is good to ask questions that have already been answered.  Some people are lurkers and may not have seen the original post and others may be too shy to ask but want the same info.  Please...ask away!

Hi Sherylynn,
I can't help you with the chewables I take the calcium pill with vitaimin D.  Keep on asking the questions that is what the board is for, and the guys and gals don't mind answereing the questions we have a great group of folks who are willing to help us  go  through our weight loss journey. I thank God everyday for this board, and the wonderful folks who post and help me through my weight loss journey.

Hey SherylLynn,

Don't worry about repeating questions, I do it too, we are new to this and it takes time to learn and absorb all this information.

I use Calcium Citrate wafers from TwinLab.  They are citrus flavored and are currently on sale at The Vitamin Shoppe.  I liked the chocolate calcium from bariatric advantage pre-op, but didn't like them post-op.

Will we ever be able to switch to something like Viactiv?

Nope, because Viactiv is calcium carbonate, and not as easily absorbed even by the average Joe, much less by us gastric bypass types.

Citracal used to make these "creamy bites" things (I loved them), then they discontinued them,  and now Bayer (which bought the brand Citracal) is supposed to be making them again? I think that's the last I heard.

For me, I take the Wal-Mart brand horse-pills, but I'm also 2.5 years out and able to handle them. I also liked the Twin Lab wafers.

Thanks Julie!!!  I had my one month post-op nut class this morning and got the same answer about the citracal chews, so we will have to keep a watch out for them.  A non-chalky option would be awesome!!!

I have had the most success with Bariatric Advantage calcium wafers -- I prefer the chocolate flavor, but then again, I am totally a chocoholic.  :)

I'm so glad you asked this question!  That's one thing I've had a hard time finding (and swallowing).  Now I know where to look for chewables.  Does anyone know what the correct dosage is that we're supposed to be having??  I've seen different numbers for that, too.

Thanks,
Christine

Chewables are awesome and of course we absorb them better, too.  The dosage you take depends on your surgeon.  I would ask there to begin with.

Hi Sheryl Lynn,

I'm a little late with my input, but I go to https://www.colonialmedical.com. It's a premeasured powder in indivdual packets.  So you can put a few in your purse & go...you need 4 a day!  And they're not expensive either.  Just click on Dietary Supplements & look for Upcal-D.  The best way to take it is to get a tablespoon full of liquid & pour it in the spoon & you're done!

Hope this helps, Anastasia
