Still sore............
I had my surgery on the 29th and I'm home now. Everything went well. Drinking my protein drinks, plenty of water and some yummy jello. The worst part for me is not being able to sleep. I love my sleep but cringe thinking of rolling in and out of bed. The pressure and the feeling of being pulled apart is too much for me. I'm doing my breathing exercises and walking. Don't get me wrong I'm feeling better on a daily basis. But I just can't wait to crawl into bed roll over and not have any pain. Someone told me b/4 this surgery that I probably wouldn't even be thinking about food for abt the first year. I thought to myself, "I can't even imagine that". I'm surprising myself daily. The one thing that keeps popping in my head is scrambled egg on wheat toast. Not chocolate, red meat, cookies but a scrambled egg - go figure.
Have a great day!

Janet,
Sorry I am so long in replying. Been really busy this week! We are headed out in a few to the mountains for an apple festival with family and friends!
Glad you are doing well and pray you continue to do so. I think most of us had to sleep sitting up when we first came home from the hospital. It will pass and soon you will be back in your bed.
Let me know if you need anything!

Life could not get any better than this!
Hi there- I slept in a recliner for a couple of weeks afte rmy RNY as it was too hard to sleep in the bed - I gradually moved back into bed......... it does get better I promise and within about 3-4 weeks you can roll back and forward like you used to...
The eggs you will probably enjoy but I would skip the toast as you will not be able to eat it all in the beginning......
Oh you will think about food all the time but your body will have different cravings........ hopefully not too much on the chocolate side lol!
Good luck and keep telling is how you are doing!

Hi Janet,
Ditto on what everyone else said, I slept in an oversized chair for the first week. When I did go back to my bed I got a body pillow. I put it between me and my husband and was able to lay on my side and lean back into the pillow. I also would lay on the other side and sort of hug the pillow. I just kept trying things out and adjusting until it was comfortable. Keep up your breathing exercises and walking. I always felt better after walking.
I hear ya on the craving front. I definitely think about food less, but I have had two food dreams since surgery. One I had McDonalds and the other I ate tacos. Completely weird and the thought of McDonalds when I am awake makes me a little sick. So I know its totally my old ways working themselves out. I am on my soft/pureed foods stage and I would love a piece of toast with my scrambled eggs, but it is too soon and I am willing to wait. I thought that giving up sugar and sweets, especially chocolate would be hard, but surprisingly, I have not craved it either.
Just keep at it, you are doing great!

Glad you are doing well. I had my surgery on the 17th. I had probelms sleeping, too. I was up all hours of the night and I actually slept in our recliner for the first few nights home since it was easier for me to get up. How funny you said that you crave scrambled eggs, because that's all I could think of for the 2 weeks after surgery that i was on the liquid diet. lol. The pain will get better every day. I'm still a little sore now, but it is totally managable, it's not a big deal. Welcome to the loser's bench!
