Daily Inspiration - Take care of the big stuff first

Take care of the big stuff first.

A professor asked his students to guess how many rocks could fit into a glass jar he held. To find out, he placed many small pebbles into the jar. But then, he realized, the bigger rocks didn't fit in. Next, he did the reverse--he placed the biggest rocks in first and then added the pebbles. A surprising number of pebbles fit into the crevices between the larger rocks.

The bigger rocks symbolize the really important things in your life--your health, your family, and your faith. Focus on making sure those big rocks are in place before you start to add the pebbles. When you fill your jar with pebbles, the big rocks won't fit.

Action for the day: Write down a short list of the truly important things in your life. Then write a second list of things that you may enjoy or want to do, but that you could drop occasionally without major suffering. Put the second list away and vow not to look at it until you've addressed the first list.
