Stalled already

Hey Everyone,

I have a quick question.  I am at the start of my fourth week post-op and I lost a large amount my first week home, 20lbs.  But since then I have actually gained 3 lbs.  When I weighed this morning I had dropped 2 of the 3lbs gained, but it took 2 weeks to do that.  Is this normal?  I am getting in my vitamins, protein drinks, water and eating my 3 meals a day.  I am also getting about 30 minutes of walking in 5 or 6 days a week.

I keep waiting for that day when I get on the scale and have dropped 5 lbs, but it isn't happening.  It just seems a little early for a stall like this.  Although I am sure my body is wondering what I am doing to it.

Thanks for all of your help!

You are right it is your body saying what are you doing to me. Just keep up with what you are doing. Maybe add a little more walking in may increase from 30 to 45 minutes and see what happens and when walking to some at a slow rate and some at a faster pace. This is just a suggestion.

This is 100% normal!  Your body needs time to catch up.  You may want to increase the walk or go another route to include hills or something else but my biggest advice is to LOSE THE SCALE!!!!!  I weigh once per week and no more.  Doing it daily is horrible,  It is not a true weight.  To me...all it did was hurt my mental progress.  Keep up the good work on what you are doing!

Tammy,

You are right about the scale but it has been the one addiction I haven't been able to give up.  I am trying.  I am trying to just do a couple times a week and not everyday.  Its funny, I quit caffine and sugar cold turkey, but the scale I have to hold onto.  It was how I keep myself on track pre-WLS.  I will keep working on it.

Thanks,
Amanda

Thanks Ladies,

This is what I thought, I just wanted to make sure.  My Dad in particular was concerned that I was doing something wrong, he thinks I have had entirely too easy a go at this and keeps waiting for me to have some sort of negative reaction to something.  Its funny, he calls every couple of days and asks if I have gotten sick yet.  Not to say he is expecting me to fail, I think he is just looking for an excuse to not do the surgery himself and I have yet to give him one.

You are doing great !  You just received some great advise.

I found to loose the 32 lbs pre-op I did not look at the scale...

Focus on feeling healthy.   The weight will come on its own...
You are beautiful and do not let anyone take you from your focus.
Be healthy and the rest will come.

Hey !  Will need your help... Will keep in touch when I get home !

Take care !!   Caroline

Amanda - you are doing great!  It is just taking time for your body to catch up - it is probably still in shock lol!  Try to relax - lose the scale - up your exercise a little - drnk your water and enjoy this ride... you WILL lose the weight if you are dong everything you should be doing :-)

Thanks Everyone!!!!

I got home today and got on my elliptical and did 2 miles in less then 18 mins.  I was excited since they told me it would take at least 2 months to do 2 miles in 30 mins.  It felt good I am going to keep up with it and work up to 30 minutes, maybe get 3 miles in.

Thanks again for all the great advice.  I will have my husband hide the scale tonight.

Hey Amanda,

You're doing wonderfully. You've gotten great feedback from everyone. Change things up a bit with your exercising and try to up your protein and fluids intake. Moving "differently" seems to help shake things up. You'll get to that day. A lot of this is patience which at times is a pesky word in our journey! Hugs.....
