Confusion (Newbie)

Hello and welcome!  I researched surgeons first then went to his informational session.  I went with what procedure he thought was best, open RNY. 

My cousin and aunt had previously had the same surgery and used the same surgeon so it was easier for me.

I did not have a policy that required a referral so I didn't mention it to my PCP until I needed a letter from him supporting my decision and my medical records showing my documented weight over the years.  He had been on me for quite some time to lose weight so he jumped at the chance to write the letter.

I work for the insurance company so I already knew what my requirements were.  I told my manager and called HR to get LOA and FMLA papers started.  Everyone was very supportive.
